As a Senior Platform Engineer, you'll bring strong AWS platform engineering expertise to the delivery of cloud solutions and transformation programmes. You'll take ownership of significant technical work packages, contribute to technical design decisions and help delivery teams implement engineering best practice across platform, automation and cloud infrastructure activities.

You will combine hands-on engineering capability with growing technical leadership, helping clients deliver secure, scalable and resilient AWS platforms while developing your expertise across architecture, automation, DevOps and platform engineering disciplines.

As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will be responsible for:

• Design, build and maintain AWS platforms, infrastructure and cloud-native solutions.
• Lead the delivery of technical work packages and platform engineering activities.
• Translate functional and non-functional requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
• Design and implement Infrastructure as Code, automation tooling and CI/CD pipelines.
• Apply AWS best practices across security, reliability, scalability and operational excellence.
• Troubleshoot complex platform, infrastructure and deployment issues.
• Support architecture, design and technical assurance activities.
• Identify technical risks and support mitigation activities.
• Drive engineering quality through peer reviews, testing practices and technical documentation.
• Provide technical leadership within assigned workstreams and develop recognised expertise within specific platform engineering domains.
• Collaborate with engineers, architects and client stakeholders to solve technical challenges.
• Support and mentor junior engineers through technical guidance and knowledge sharing.
• Contribute to reusable assets, engineering standards and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Evaluate emerging AWS services and engineering approaches to support innovation and delivery excellence.

The following are the core skills and experience expected to be successful in this role:

• Experience designing, building and supporting cloud-based platforms and infrastructure with AWS.
• Strong working knowledge of AWS services, cloud architecture and platform engineering principles.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CloudFormation or AWS CDK.
• Experience implementing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation.
• Understanding of cloud networking, identity management and platform operations.
• Experience with monitoring, logging and observability tooling.
• Experience developing scripts or applications using languages such as Python, TypeScript, Bash or Go.
• Experience troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure and platform issues.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience contributing to technical design discussions and solution delivery.
• Strong understanding of platform security principles and the ability to apply them when designing and developing AWS platform solutions.
• Experience supporting and coaching less experienced engineers.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Associate or AWS Certified CloudOps Engineer - Associate certification, or active progress towards it.

The following will be desirable skills:

• Knowledge of site reliability engineering principles and practices and their application within platform environments.
• Relevant AWS certification, such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer - Professional or AWS Certified Security - Specialty.
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code tooling, particularly Terraform, AWS CloudFormation or AWS CDK, with an appreciation of repeatable, version-controlled and auditable provisioning practices.
• Familiarity with hybrid and multi-cloud architectures, including the integration of on-premises environments with AWS.
• Working knowledge of AI and machine learning services on AWS, including Amazon SageMaker, Amazon Bedrock and Amazon Q Business, and how they can support client outcomes.
• Experience with AWS billing, cost management and optimisation, including AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Budgets and AWS Cost and Usage Reports.
• Exposure to data engineering or analytics workloads on AWS, such as AWS Glue, Amazon Redshift, Amazon Athena, Amazon Kinesis, Amazon SNS or Amazon SQS, with the ability to contribute alongside specialist data teams.
• Willing and eligible to obtain UK security clearance to Security Check (SC) is essential.
• Active or readily transferable security clearance is desirable.
