Role Description

• We are looking for a Senior Database Developer with 10-12 years of experience, specializing in Oracle database development, with strong expertise in data warehousing, BI reporting (Tableau/SAP BO), and AI-driven development practices.

• The ideal candidate will have deep experience in designing, developing, and optimizing scalable data solutions, along with the ability to analyze complex data landscapes, understand lineage, and troubleshoot across multiple upstream/downstream systems.

• In addition, the candidate must demonstrate hands-on experience with AI-assisted development (e.g., GitHub Copilot, agents, LLM-based tools, RAG, orchestration frameworks) to improve productivity, quality, and innovation.

• A strong focus on performance engineering, observability, and data reliability, combined with a proactive mindset, ownership, and ability to collaborate across teams, is essential.

Your key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance Oracle database solutions, including stored procedures, functions, and packages.
• Implement and optimize data warehousing solutions to support enterprise reporting and analytics.
• Develop and support end-to-end data pipelines, including integration across multiple data sources and feeds.
• Perform data analysis, debugging, and root cause investigation across systems, ensuring data accuracy and consistency.
• Understand and document data lineage across multiple upstream and downstream systems.
• Develop and optimize batch workflows using Control-M and Unix scripting.
• Design and deliver BI solutions using Tableau and SAP BO, ensuring scalability and performance.
• Build and maintain complex Tableau dashboards, including advanced visualizations and interactivity.
• Optimize query performance and ensure efficient data retrieval.
• Apply DevOps and automation practices for database development and deployment.
• Leverage AI tools (GitHub Copilot, AI agents, LLM-based assistants) to accelerate development and improve code quality.
• Design solutions with a focus on observability, monitoring, and supportability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, UI teams, and business stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to coding standards, security practices, and data governancepolicies.

Your skills and experience

• 10+ years of experience in database development.

• Expertise in Oracle databases, including ExaCC. With at least 2 years production level exposure to 19c

• Strong SQL and PL/SQL programming skills including complex SQL analytics and bulk operations

• Comfortable responding quickly and decisively when dealing with production database issues; used to dealing with production DBA’s and open to challenging their recommendations

• Indepth knowledge of the Oracle data dictionary, ASH and AWR but not a reliance on pre-canned reports to diagnose performance issues

• SME on the inner workings of the Oracle database and not just using the database as a ‘black box’

• Familiar with and practical experience of both OLTP and Datawarehouse platforms and how to design and tune accordingly; the difference approaches to coding etc.

• Confident talking to data modellers to talk through database design, critiquing and conveying new requirements

• Ability to analyse complex legacy code and propose solutions to streamline including implementation of reusable components

• Ability to code MVP’s to help demonstrate concepts and approaches to others thinking about the advantages and disadvantages of their own solution.

• Terms like context switching, bind variable peeking, cardinality feedback, data skews, histograms, cursor sharing, hard parsing and database waits are all part of your repertoire

• Authors like Tom Kyte, Steven Feuerstein, Christian Antognini and Jonathan Lewis are familiar to you

• Familiarity with version control systems (e.g., Git).

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Awareness of container bases deployment ideally OpenShift Container Platform 4.

• Experience with Jenkins/GitHub Actions and Maven/Gradle.

• Scripting with any scripting system such as Bash/Python/Perl

• Strong competency in building and deploying applications using standard build tools.

• DevOps mindset with a focus on observability and supportability.

• High emotional quotient and respect for diverse opinions.

• Independence, drive, commitment to excellence, high standards of workmanship, and dedication to quality.

• Proficiency with Test Driven Development and Behaviour Driven Development.

• Experience with Liquibase/Flyway

• Proficiency in advanced branching and merging concepts.

• Orientation towards writing safe, secure code that avoids/remediates vulnerabilities early in the development cycle.

Preferred Qualifications

Oracle Skills

• 10-12 years of experience in Oracle database development.
• Strong expertise in:

• PL Oracle SQL & PL/SQL advanced features (bulk processing, collections, pipelined functions)
• Query performance tuning and optimizer behavior
• Oracle partitioning, indexing, and storage management concepts
• Materialized views, refresh strategies, and query rewrite techniques

• Hands-on experience with:
  • AWR/ASH reports analysis for performance tuning
  • Database job scheduling (DBMS_SCHEDULER / Control-M integration)
  • Handling large datasets (TB-scale data processing)
  • Experience with automation of database deployments using CI/CD pipelines
  • Control-M scheduling
  • Unix/Linux scripting

• Strong debugging capabilities across multiple data feeds and systems.
• Ability to analyze and understand complex data lineage.

Tableau & BI Skills

• Expertise in:
  • Tableau dashboard development (complex dashboards, actions, performance tuning)
  • Cross-database joins & data blending
  • TabPy integration
  • API-based integration with external systems
• Experience with SAP BusinessObjects (BO) reporting.

AI & Modern Development (Mandatory)

• Hands-on experience with:
  • GitHub Copilot / AI code assistants
  • AI agents, tools, and orchestration frameworks
• Working knowledge of:
  • LLMs (Large Language Models)
  • RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation)
  • MCP / tool integration patterns
• Ability to apply AI for:
  • Code generation & optimization
  • Debugging and root cause analysis
  • Improving developer productivity

Engineering & DevOps Practices

• Strong understanding of:
