Develop Health is on a mission to use AI to radically accelerate access to life-saving medications. By automating complex, manual healthcare processes-like benefit verification and prior authorization-we've been growing rapidly and over the past couple of years have helped over 2.5 million patients!
We’re partnering with some of the largest pharmacy benefit managers and payers in the nation, revolutionizing how healthcare interactions occur by eliminating human delays and inefficiencies. Our small, elite team of founders and engineers have previously launched and exited successful healthcare startups including Rupa Health and Canvas Medical. We are now scaling rapidly following a major funding round.
About The Role
We're hiring a Sales Development Manager to run the team that calls provider offices on behalf of the pharmacies we work with.
When a pharmacy sends us a prescription that needs a prior authorization, we usually need something from the prescriber's office first, most often the clinical notes. Many of those offices have never heard of us. Our calling team reaches them by phone, gets the request to the person who handles prior authorizations, and returns their callbacks. Whether that call happens quickly and gets a response often decides whether a patient starts their medication this week or next.
You'll run that team, reporting to our Head of Provider Growth (to our CEO until that role is filled). It's small today, and it works in a calling tool our engineers built and keep improving. You'll own how much calling capacity we have, how fast calls and callbacks happen, and how many offices respond.
Three things define success in this role:
You own speed and capacity. Calling tasks get worked while they still matter, and callbacks are returned the same day. You know how many calls the team can make, how many we need, and when to hire.
You own the response rate on calls. You know how often we reach someone, how often they respond, and why calls fail (wrong number, voicemail, wrong desk). You change scripts, timing, and process to move those numbers.
You make the tooling better. You work in the calling tool every day and turn what you see into specific, prioritized asks for our engineers.
You don't need a healthcare background, but you do need to pick up a complex domain quickly. Startup experience is a strong plus.
What You'll Do
Run the team
Hire, train, coach, and schedule callers. Set the daily cadence, listen to calls, and give feedback.
Make calls yourself, especially early on.
Decide when to add headcount or bring in outside help, with the numbers to back it.
Run the numbers
Own the calling metrics: capacity against demand, time from task to first call, callback response time, reach rate, and response rate.
Report them weekly and explain what moved.
Improve how we call
Own call scripts and talking points for different kinds of offices, and test changes.
Work with our growth marketing lead, who owns fax, email, and messaging, so phone and digital touches work together on the same offices.
Work with engineering on the calling tool: what slows callers down, what data is missing, and what to fix first.
What You'll Bring On Day 1
You've managed an outbound calling team. SDR, inside sales, patient access, or similar, with phone as a main channel. You've hired and coached callers.
You run a team on numbers. Activity, speed to lead, connect rate, conversion. You can walk us through a metric you moved and how.
You're good on the phone. You can get past a front desk politely and get a busy office to act.
You build process. You've fixed a queue, written a playbook, or set up a workflow in a CRM or dialer, and given useful feedback to whoever built the tool.
Quantitative fluency. You can break a funnel into its steps and tell which one is broken.
Fast and self-directed. You take direction well, then run with it.
What You'll Need To Learn Quickly
Our domain: prior authorization and medication access, and what a provider office needs from us to complete a request.
How a provider office works: who answers the phone, who handles prior authorizations, and who to ask for.
The rules: what HIPAA allows on a call, and with whom.
Bonus Points
Phone outreach in healthcare: specialty pharmacy, hub services, revenue cycle, or a medical office.
Early hire at a high-growth or early-stage startup.
Experience with AI voice agents or modern dialer tooling.
This Might Not Be The Right Fit If
You want to manage managers or a large org right away. This is a small team you'll build.
You'd rather not make calls yourself. You will, especially early.
You need polished process and tools on day one. Building them is part of the job.
You want to own digital channels. Fax, email, and messaging belong to our growth marketing lead. You'll share the same funnel.
What We Offer
Competitive base salary plus meaningful early-stage equity.
Modern calling and AI tooling, built in-house and improving every week.
Work that directly accelerates access to medication for hundreds of thousands of patients, with room to grow as the team scales.
