DHR Engineering is a fast-growing technology leader in industrial automation.
We design the next generation of production systems for some of the most ambitious and forward-thinking companies across the US and Europe.
Our systems are deployed in real manufacturing environments for industry leaders and suppliers of SpaceX, Tesla, and Blue Origin.
DHR’s software engineering team focuses on intelligent machine and robotics control, production orchestration, and the optimization of manufacturing processes and workflows.
We’re relentless problem solvers who value precision, take ownership, and get things done. That’s how we’re building the future of manufacturing.
JOB OVERVIEW
We’re looking for a motivated Software Engineer Intern to join our team and help build software systems behind real-world manufacturing automation projects.
This is a paid full-time internship position.
You’ll work on software that connects backend services, robotics, industrial equipment, and operator-facing applications.
A central part of your role will be learning how to program industrial robots, alongside developing the software systems that control and coordinate manufacturing processes.
This is a fully on-site position. You’ll work directly alongside software, robotics, controls, and mechanical engineers, with hands-on access to industrial robots and automation equipment. Being physically present is an important part of the role, enabling close collaboration, practical learning, and real-world testing.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you’ll learn from experienced engineers while contributing to real production systems. We’re not expecting you to know everything from day one. We’re looking for people with solid programming fundamentals, curiosity, and the motivation to develop their engineering skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
You’ll start with smaller, well-defined tasks and receive guidance and mentorship. Our goal is to help successful interns develop the skills needed to transition into a full-time Junior Software Engineer position.
- Learn to program industrial robots, developing and improving robotic operations for real manufacturing automation projects
- Develop and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and frameworks such as FastAPI
- Implement new features, fix bugs, and improve existing software systems
- Help develop software for manufacturing execution, robotics orchestration, and automation workflows
- Work with databases such as MongoDB and PostgreSQL
- Integrate backend services with frontend applications, robotic systems, and industrial equipment
- Learn and work with REST APIs, asynchronous processing, and message-based communication
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
- Investigate bugs and troubleshoot software issues with guidance from experienced engineers
- Collaborate with software, robotics, controls, and mechanical engineers
- Gradually take responsibility for increasingly complex development tasks
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
No previous professional experience is required.
- Basic programming knowledge, including familiarity with fundamental concepts such as variables, functions, data structures, and control flow
- Some experience with Python or another general-purpose programming language, gained through university, personal projects, or professional work
- Basic understanding of object-oriented programming
- Ability to approach problems logically and debug code
- Curiosity about robotics, automation, and how software interacts with physical systems
- Willingness to learn new technologies and continuously develop your engineering skills
- Good communication skills and ability to work collaboratively
- Good command of English
Nice to Have:
- Experience with Python and frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django
- Familiarity with REST APIs and client-server applications
- Experience with Git and version control
- Basic knowledge of SQL or NoSQL databases, such as PostgreSQL or MongoDB.
- Familiarity with Linux and command-line tools
- Basic knowledge of Docker
- Experience writing automated tests
- Familiarity with asynchronous programming or message brokers
- Experience with robotics, embedded systems, industrial automation, or hardware-related projects
- Personal or university projects demonstrating practical software development skills
WHAT WE OFFER
