Dimensional Fund Advisors is a global investment management firm known for applying academic financial research to systematic portfolio construction. It offers mutual funds, ETFs and separate accounts across equities and fixed income, targeting size, value and profitability premiums, largely through financial advisors and institutions. The firm was founded in 1981 by David Booth and Rex Sinquefield, works closely with economists such as Eugene Fama, and is headquartered in Austin, Texas.

Job Description:

Dimensional was built around a set of ideas bigger than the firm itself. With a confidence in markets, deep connections to the academic community, and a focus on implementation, we go where the science leads, and continue to pursue new insights, both large and small, that can benefit our clients.

The Technology Department at Dimensional leverages the rapidly evolving state of the art to engineer the platforms that power the innovative, research-driven financial and technical products to improve our client’s financial lives.

The Manager of Software Engineering will lead the engineering team responsible for our client asset reporting platform and broader Sales Technology application ecosystem. This role requires strong expertise in C#/.NET development, data engineering, systems integration, and AI-assisted software development. In this role, you will oversee the design, development, delivery, modernization, and ongoing support of business-critical platforms serving the Global Client Group, Finance, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

This is a highly visible technical leadership role accountable for engineering quality, platform reliability, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will foster a culture of ownership and accountability, guide technical decisions, develop engineering talent, and use measurable outcomes and data-informed decision making to evaluate performance, prioritize investments, and deliver meaningful business value.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Hire, coach, develop, and hold engineers accountable. Build technical capabilities and a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Set technical engineering direction - Establish the long-term direction for the team’s technology, architecture, engineering practices, and capabilities, including AI-assisted engineering, while remaining sufficiently hands-on to understand the codebase, contribute when needed, and effectively guide technical decisions.
  • Prioritize and deliver - Use data and measurable outcomes to inform prioritization of work, evaluate tradeoffs, improve team performance, and ensure engineering effort is focused on the highest-value priorities.
  • Own operational health - Use operational data and engineering metrics to understand system health, identified opportunities for improvement, and ensure applications and services are reliable, supportable, and effectively operated.
  • Own engineering risk and security - Ensure vulnerabilities, technical debt, lifecycle risks, controls, and other engineering risks are understood, prioritized, and addressed.
  • Communicate and align - Provide senior leadership and stakeholders with clear, data-informed visibility into priorities, delivery, performance, risks, tradeoffs, and decisions.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing software engineering teams, including coaching, performance management, and building technical capability.
  • Strong software engineering background with the technical judgement to guide architecture, engineering practices, operational reliability, and technical tradeoffs.
  • Working knowledge of AI-assisted software engineering practices and emerging agentic development approaches.
  • Strong software engineering background with hands-on development experience with C#/.NET, Microsoft SQL Server, and Snowflake, with the ability and willingness to contribute directly to code when needed.
  • Experience translating business and product priorities into engineering direction, priorities, and executable plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to use data and metrics to understand performance, identify opportunities, and inform decisions.
  • Experience leading teams responsible for production applications, including operational support, reliability, security, and vulnerability management.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder-management skills, including the ability to communicate technical topics, priorities, risks, and tradeoffs to senior leadership and non-technical audiences.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Leading modernization of established applications, engineering practices, or technology platforms
  • Managing engineering teams supporting enterprise-scale, business-critical applications
  • Working in a regulated or highly controlled environment, including security, risk, audit, or compliance considerations
  • Introducing or scaling AI-assisted and agentic software engineering practices, including establishing effective usage patterns, guardrails, and measures of impact
  • Improving DevOps, CI/CD, observability, automated testing, and modern software delivery practices
  • Containerized applications and modern application orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes
  • Python, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Linux
