Creating the Extraordinary, Together.

Fremantle is a powerhouse of the TV and Film industry. We are one of the world’s largest and most successful creators, producers and distributors of Entertainment, Drama & Film and Documentaries.

From critically acclaimed dramas like The Responder, starring Martin Freeman, award winning films including Paolo Sorrentino’s Oscar nominated The Hand of God to incredible entertainment like The Rap Game, Too Hot to Handle, The Apprentice and Britain’s Got Talent, we make shows with global appeal.

Our purpose

We are driven by a shared purpose of Creating the Extraordinary, Together. We tell stories that connect people around the world, reflecting and celebrating the diversity of the world we live in. Through compelling, irresistible entertainment, we aim to engage and inspire our audiences. To achieve this, we bring together people from all backgrounds and cultures, both in our teams and on our shows. We are committed to creating opportunities for talent by being inclusive in all that we do.

Role Overview

You will lead the implementation and continuous improvement of Fremantle’s Sustainable Production Principles, turning our sustainability ambitions into practical, consistent action across productions. The Principles provide a framework for addressing the environmental and social impacts of production, including decarbonisation, energy and resource use, waste, materials, human rights, Modern Slavery, working conditions and responsible supply chains.

Working closely with production leaders, Producers, Production Managers, Heads of Department, suppliers and the wider Sustainability team, you will build understanding, capability and accountability across the production community. You will ensure that the Principles are embedded into production planning and delivery, while driving progress towards more efficient, resilient and responsible ways of working across Fremantle’s productions.

Main Objectives of the Role

  • Own the implementation and embedding of the Fremantle Sustainable Production Principles across productions, ensuring they are understood, adopted and consistently applied.
  • Lead the practical delivery of the Principles across all stages of production, from development and pre-production through to shoot, wrap and post-production.
  • Work with production teams to identify and address material sustainability risks and opportunities, including carbon emissions, energy and temporary power, travel and transport, materials, set builds, waste, human rights, Modern Slavery, working conditions and responsible sourcing.
  • Drive meaningful reductions in production emissions, working with teams and suppliers to identify practical opportunities to improve energy efficiency, reduce travel and transport impacts, increase the use of clean power and minimise material and waste impacts.
  • Develop and deliver guidance, training, tools and resources that enable production teams, suppliers and Heads of Department to meet the Principles in a practical and proportionate way.
  • Build sustainability capability and ownership across the production ecosystem, supporting behavioural and operational change rather than treating sustainability as a standalone compliance exercise.
  • Establish effective processes for monitoring progress, capturing evidence and reporting on implementation and impact, working with the Sustainability team and relevant business systems.
  • Engage with suppliers, facilities, hire houses, technology providers and industry partners to improve access to more sustainable products, services and production solutions.
  • Keep the Principles under review, identifying emerging risks, best practice, regulatory developments and opportunities to strengthen Fremantle’s approach.
  • Support production, commercial and business development teams to incorporate sustainability into budgets, bids, production planning and stakeholder discussions.

Skills and Experience:

Essential:

  • Significant experience (e.g. 7-10+ years) in film, TV or content production operations, ideally across scripted and unscripted, working at a senior level (Production Manager, Line Producer, Operations), with exposure to sustainability or environmental management.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience in sustainability/decarbonization strategies, energy management, clean technologies, fuel reduction practices or related fields.
  • Experience with carbon footprint methodologies, especially in media / production contexts, plus familiarity with GHG protocols, ISO standards, or equivalent frameworks.
  • Strong project management skills: able to plan, track, coordinate multiple moving parts, stakeholders and timelines.
  • Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills: able to translate sustainability goals into actionable steps with production teams and external suppliers.
  • Analytical mindset: comfortable with data, metrics, modelling, and reporting.
  • Passion for sustainability, good judgment, entrepreneurial spirit and problem-solving orientation.
  • Flexibility/adaptability to work across multiple productions and respond to changing priorities.

Desirable:

  • Experience working with or knowledge of policy, regulation or incentives linked to sustainable production / carbon reduction.
  • Existing contacts / network in production supply chain (suppliers, vendors, energy/green tech, rental houses).
  • Experience in training, capacity building or leading change management initiatives
  • A formal sustainability, environmental science or carbon management qualification (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience liaising with broadcasters, funds, or sustainability initiatives in the media sector.
