Doppler is a secrets manager that stores API keys, database credentials and certificates and injects them into applications at runtime. It syncs to cloud providers, CI systems and container platforms so no secret needs to sit in a repository or environment file. Engineering teams use it to rotate credentials and audit who accessed them.

This a Full Remote job, the offer is available from: United States

Why Now

2026 has been a breakout year for Doppler. We’ve helped over 78,000 startups and enterprises manage their secrets at scale, and landed our first million-dollar customer. We've shipped some of our most exciting features yet, expanded our customer base, and sharpened our focus like never before. With a strong foundation in community, we're scaling and monetizing with ambitious goals across product, growth, sales, and hiring.

The rise of AI tooling has fundamentally expanded who and what has access to your secrets. The stakes have never been higher, and getting it wrong has real consequences. Doppler is the solution to fix this. Simple to adopt, easy to scale, and built for developers, by developers. The momentum is real, and we’re just getting started.

About Doppler

Doppler's mission is to make it easy and secure for software developers of every experience level and teams of any size to manage their app configuration and secrets. But hasn't this been done?

Developers tend to be either struggling with the manual management of .env files, or wrestling with an overly complex secrets manager that's not built for software development.

Our team is entrepreneurial, with a bias for action. We never back down from a spirited debate and believe we are all responsible for exploring the hard questions. We value self-awareness and meaningful impact. We are open to unconventional approaches and have learned not to judge a book by its cover. Your time is your most valuable resource, so you set your hours. We use Slack to communicate and default to zero meetings.

Who We Are

Doppler is a developer-first secrets management platform that enables engineers and security teams to securely store their secrets across any cloud infrastructure or deployment environment at scale.

The Role

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll help build the next phase of scale for a platform that 78,000+ teams trust with their most sensitive data, using industry-leading techniques, and you’ll blaze the path for reliable agentic patterns at Doppler. We’re looking for an engineering-first mind: someone with strong technical fundamentals and principles who is also deeply engaged with AI and understands the shape of the emerging industry. You know that AI amplifies good engineering judgment rather than replacing it. You care about building systems that are correct, fast, and secure by default, and you’re just as comfortable in the infrastructure those systems run on as in the code itself.

About the Team

Doppler Engineering spans product, data, growth, infrastructure, and security. We’re a security-first team that genuinely cares about the quality of what we build. We collaborate with as little ego as humanly possible and are constantly trying to improve how we work and deliver software.

What you’ll do:

  • Design, build, own, operate, and support the services, APIs, and data systems at the center of Doppler’s product.

  • Build the next phase of scale at Doppler, including reliability, performance, and the infrastructure underneath, using industry-leading techniques.

  • Blaze the path for reliable agentic patterns at Doppler: shared context, guardrails, and review practices that make agents genuinely useful while keeping human judgment in the loop.

  • Lead by example in how you work with AI, and help the engineers around you move faster without sacrificing security or quality.

  • Own the design of the systems you build, and influence the standards the rest of the team builds against.

  • Collaborate with engineers throughout the team to turn ambiguous product problems into systems we can operate confidently for years.

  • Approach everything you do from a security-first perspective.

  • Raise the bar around you through code review, design review, and mentorship.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • 5+ years of experience building and operating production software systems.

  • Strong technical fundamentals, with strong opinions (loosely held) about service and API design.

  • Strong data experience: schema design, query performance, and migrations against live traffic.

  • Experience with distributed systems: the failure modes, the tradeoffs, and the discipline of designing for both.

  • You’ve run production systems at scale and made big changes to them without taking them down. You own your services end to end: shipping, reading the dashboards, and debugging in production.

  • Deep, daily fluency with AI and agentic tooling. You know where it shines, where it fails, and how to move faster without sacrificing security or quality, and you want to teach others the same.

  • Genuine engagement with where the AI industry is heading, and the ability to separate what’s real from what’s hype.

  • Sound human judgment: you own every line you ship, can explain and defend it without the tool, and know when not to reach for an agent.

  • A pragmatic sense of when a problem deserves a robust solution and when it deserves a simple one, guided by the value to the business.

  • Comfortable jumping into situations that don’t perfectly match the job description and being helpful anyway.

  • Has no problem saying “I don’t know”, but does have a problem with stopping there.

Preferred experience:

  • Knowledge and passion for security-first engineering.

  • Experience with typed languages, especially Go and/or TypeScript.

  • Experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform [preferred], Ansible, Pulumi, etc), and a major cloud provider (GCP [preferred], AWS, or Azure; we’re on GCP).

  • Experience building multi-tenant systems with isolation guarantees.

  • Experience designing or maintaining a public API that other engineers depend on in a scaled production environment.

  • Experience releasing and supporting multiple versions in tandem.

  • Passion for mentoring others and shaping engineering culture.

Benefits

  • Premium health insurance (medical, dental, vision)

  • Guilt-free Unlimited PTO - 3-week minimum strongly encouraged!

  • Upward Mobility

  • Learning and Development Stipend

  • Wealth Advisor

  • 401k

Closing

We've built a great product our customers love. Our churn is low, and active usage continues to rise. We just need to amplify our reach to educate the market that secrets management can be fast, secure, and affordable for teams and organizations of any size. And most importantly, we need to continue encouraging Developers to stop adhering to archaic insecure standards such as manually managing .env file formats.

Are you passionate about developer-focused products and ready to join an amazing team? Then we want to hear from you!

A final note - we highly encourage you to apply for this role, even if you don't feel entirely qualified, or entirely sure. You never know!
