The opportunity

An opportunity is available for an experienced Buyer to join Downer’s Energy and Utilities business, reporting to the Procurement Manager or Procurement Lead.

Supporting a regional portfolio of projects and contracts, you will help ensure the right materials and services are sourced at the right cost, time and location. Working closely with project delivery teams, project controls, suppliers and the broader procurement function, you will support effective procurement planning, sourcing and contracting while identifying opportunities to improve value, quality and performance.

This is a hands on role for someone who enjoys building strong stakeholder and supplier relationships and wants to contribute directly to successful infrastructure project outcomes.

What you’ll do

  • Develop and maintain procurement plans aligned with Downer frameworks, project requirements and procurement processes
  • Deliver sourcing and contracting activities including RFx processes, supplier negotiations, pricing, commercial terms and delivery schedules
  • Build strong supplier relationships, ensure appropriate supplier prequalification and proactively address performance, quality and commercial issues
  • Ensure purchasing activities comply with relevant procurement processes, P2P requirements and delegated financial authority while maintaining accurate procurement records and reporting
  • Identify procurement risks, opportunities and cost efficiencies while supporting social, Indigenous and sustainability outcomes

What we’re looking for

  • A Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, procurement, engineering, project management or a related discipline
  • At least 2 years of experience across procurement, project management or contract management, ideally within construction, utilities, oil and gas or a similar project environment
  • Good knowledge of procure to pay and source to contract processes, with experience undertaking sourcing, negotiation and supplier management activities
  • Strong organisational, analytical and reporting capability, combined with proficiency across ERP or procurement systems and Microsoft Office
  • A proactive, process focused approach with strong attention to detail, effective stakeholder communication skills and the ability to manage competing priorities

What we offer

  • The opportunity to build your procurement career within a Tier 1 ASX listed organisation with extensive in house capability that goes beyond traditional contractor environments
  • Access to Perks@Downer, providing a range of financial, travel and wellbeing discounts
  • Leadership and development opportunities through programs including THRIVE and EmpowHER
  • Career development opportunities supported by Energy and Utilities’ dedicated internal mobility team, with a strong focus on internal progression, succession planning and redeployment opportunities where appropriate
