The Information Technology group delivers secure, reliable technology solutions that enable DTCC to be the trusted infrastructure of the global capital markets. The team delivers high-quality information through activities that include development of essential, building infrastructure capabilities to meet client needs and implementing data standards and governance.

The Impact You Will Have in This Role

As Director, Software Engineering, you will lead the strategy, modernization, and delivery of mission-critical enterprise applications that power DTCC's core business capabilities. You will oversee multiple engineering teams responsible for building and evolving scalable, secure, and resilient software platforms that support innovation, operational excellence, and business growth.

This is a highly visible leadership role where you will partner with leaders across Product, Architecture, Infrastructure, Security, and the Business to define technology strategy, accelerate modernization initiatives, and deliver high-impact solutions. You will play a critical role in advancing DTCC's technology transformation agenda by driving cloud adoption, modern engineering practices, and AI-enabled innovation across the enterprise.

Your Primary Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership & Strategy

• Define and execute software engineering strategy, technology roadmaps, and delivery priorities aligned with business objectives.
• Lead, mentor, and develop engineering managers and high-performing software engineering teams.
• Foster a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
• Drive portfolio execution by managing priorities, delivery risks, dependencies, and resource planning.

Application Development & Modernization

• Lead the design, development, modernization, and support of large-scale enterprise applications and distributed systems.
• Drive cloud transformation initiatives that improve scalability, resilience, performance, and maintainability while reducing technical debt.
• Guide architecture and design decisions involving cloud-native technologies, microservices, APIs, event-driven architectures, and containerized platforms.
• Champion software engineering excellence through architecture reviews, development standards, code quality practices, automated testing, and engineering metrics.
• Establish and promote modern DevSecOps, CI/CD, automation, and software delivery best practices.
• Ensure solutions meet the highest standards for availability, performance, security, compliance, and operational excellence.

Business Partnership & Innovation

• Partner closely with Product Owners, Business Leaders, Architects, and Technology teams to deliver solutions that address evolving business needs.
• Translate strategic objectives into scalable technology solutions that drive measurable outcomes.
• Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies, including AI-enabled capabilities, to improve engineering productivity and accelerate innovation.
• Influence technology investment decisions and long-term modernization strategies across the organization.

Organizational Influence

• Collaborate with executive stakeholders to shape technology strategy and engineering priorities.
• Communicate complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Promote strong governance, risk management, and operational discipline across engineering organizations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including leadership of large-scale enterprise application development organizations and engineering managers.
• Proven experience leading multiple engineering teams delivering large-scale software platforms and business-critical applications.
• Demonstrated success building, developing, and retaining high-performing engineering organizations.

• Proven experience leading enterprise application development organizations across multiple products, platforms, or business domains.
• Strong technical leadership in application architecture, cloud-native development, microservices, APIs, distributed systems, and modern software design patterns.
• Experience leading full-stack engineering teams and large-scale modernization initiatives.
• Strong understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC), DevSecOps, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, performance engineering, and production support.
• Proven ability to align technology investments and architectural decisions with business outcomes.
• Demonstrated success developing engineering leaders and fostering highly engaged, high-performing teams.
• Strong executive presence, communication skills, and stakeholder management capabilities.
• Strategic mindset with the ability to balance modernization, innovation, risk management, and execution.
• Experience leveraging AI, automation, and engineering productivity tools to improve software delivery and operational efficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience building and operating enterprise applications on AWS, Azure, or other cloud-native platforms.
• Experience leading large-scale Java-based full-stack application development organizations.
• Experience modernizing legacy platforms and migrating enterprise applications to cloud-native architectures.
• Expertise in microservices, API-first design, event-driven architectures, and containerized environments.
• Experience implementing AI-enabled capabilities, intelligent automation, or advanced analytics solutions.
• Financial Services, Capital Markets, FinTech, or other highly regulated industry experience.

The salary range is indicative for roles at the same level within DTCC across all US locations.
