POSITION OVERVIEW
The Senior Software Engineer, Senior Manager at Duck Creek Technologies is a high-impact technical leadership role responsible for providing deep expertise and strategic direction in the development of advanced software solutions for the insurance technology sector. This position focuses on technical innovation, architectural excellence, and the delivery of complex software systems. As a Senior Software Engineer, this role requires significant experience in leading large-scale technical projects but does not involve direct people management. The Senior Software Engineer collaborates with cross-functional teams and senior leadership to define and execute the technology vision while driving engineering best practices across the organization.
WHAT YOU’LL D
Serves as the technical lead for large-scale, complex software projects, ensuring architectural integrity, scalability, and performance across cloud-native systems.
Provides expert guidance on software design, architecture, and implementation strategies - including cloud infrastructure architecture (Azure), containerized/orchestrated deployments (Kubernetes), and Infrastructure-as-Code practices (Terraform) - to ensure alignment with business and technical objectives.
Drives technical innovation and evaluates emerging technologies, including AI-assisted and agentic development tooling, for integration into the engineering ecosystem, defining team standards for their safe and effective use.
Leads the design and development of key system components, frameworks, and services that form the foundation of Duck Creek's product offerings.
Collaborates with Product Management, Quality Assurance, and other Engineering teams to deliver high-quality, on-time software solutions.
Influences technical roadmaps and makes architectural decisions that support long-term scalability, maintainability, and cloud cost efficiency.
Ensures adherence to software development best practices, including coding standards, automated testing, security, performance optimization, and responsible use of AI-generated code.
Partners with engineering teams across the organization to solve complex technical challenges - including production infrastructure issues (cloud networking, autoscaling, deployment pipelines) - and drives engineering excellence.
Conducts design reviews, code reviews, and provides constructive feedback to engineering teams, applying the same scrutiny to AI-assisted contributions as to hand-written code.
Develops and maintains detailed technical documentation that supports engineering teams in delivering solutions efficiently.
Works closely with DevOps to ensure CI/CD pipelines are optimized for fast, reliable, and secure software delivery.
Acts as a thought leader within the engineering organization, contributing to technical discussions, knowledge sharing, and fostering a culture of technical excellence - including how AI tooling is adopted responsibly across teams.
Performs all other duties and activities as required.

WHAT YOU’VE DONE
Education and Work Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, or higher education level, or its foreign equivalent, in Computer Science, Computer Information Sciences, and/or related field
Total Work Experience: 12+ years (software development)
Leadership Experience: 3 years minimum, 5 years preferred
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Behaviors
Extensive experience with software architecture, design patterns, and microservices.
Strong technical leadership experience on large-scale projects in a global organization.
Experience with cloud-native architectures, containerization, and orchestration technologies (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker) and their autoscaling/production operational characteristics.
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform or equivalent) and cloud platform engineering, including diagnosing infrastructure-level issues (networking, load balancing, quotas).
Demonstrated experience leading teams in the adoption of AI-assisted and agentic software development practices, with a clear point of view on governance, code-review rigor, and risk management for AI-generated code.
Prior experience working in a senior technical role in a global software company.
In-depth understanding of modern software development methodologies, including Agile, Scrum, and DevOps practices.
Proficiency in managing complex software development projects with competing priorities and deadlines.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
Expertise in cloud computing platforms such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
Knowledge of software architecture principles, including microservices, APIs, and containerization.
Ability to foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture that embraces new tooling (including AI) without compromising quality or accountability.
Proven ability to manage budgets, forecasts, and resource planning in an engineering organization.
Proficiency in software development tools, such as Jira, Git, and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or equivalent).

Ability to manage conflict and resolve complex team dynamics.
Strategic thinking with a focus on long-term planning and aligning engineering efforts with business goals.
