We are seeking a highly motivated Buyer at Oragadam, Chennai to join our Purchase team on a full-time basis.

Major Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

Procurement Operations

  • Create, issue, manage, and monitor Purchase Orders (POs) in accordance with approved Purchase Requisitions (PRs), procurement policies, and delegated authority limits.
  • Ensure timely placement of orders and obtain supplier acknowledgment and confirmation of all purchase orders.
  • Monitor and maintain open order reports, ensuring timely follow-up and closure of completed orders.
  • Track supplier commitments and update delivery dates, pricing, lead times, and order status within the ERP system.
  • Maintain accurate purchasing master data and procurement records within the ERP system.
  • Expedite orders when required and proactively manage pull-ins, push-outs, shortages, and schedule changes.
  • Coordinate purchasing activities with Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, Finance, and other internal stakeholders.

Supplier Management

  • Serve as the primary day-to-day contact for suppliers.
  • Manage supplier communications regarding order confirmations, deliveries, shortages, quality issues, lead times, pricing discrepancies, and service performance.
  • Follow up on supplier commitments to ensure on-time delivery and timely resolution of supply issues.
  • Escalate critical delivery, quality, capacity, or service concerns as needed.
  • Support supplier performance reviews and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in supplier meetings related to operational performance and issue resolution.

Material Availability & Production Support

  • Ensure uninterrupted supply of materials and services required to support production schedules and business operations.
  • Monitor MRP outputs and purchase requirements to support demand plans and production needs.
  • Identify potential material shortages, supply risks, and inventory gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Work closely with production planners and operational teams to mitigate supply disruptions.
  • Support new product introductions, engineering changes, and product lifecycle activities from a procurement perspective.

Inventory

  • Monitor inventory levels and purchasing requirements to maintain appropriate stock levels (together with Planning)
  • Support inventory optimization initiatives while maintaining required service levels and production continuity.
  • Assist in reducing excess and obsolete inventory through proactive purchasing and supplier coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with inventory policies and targets.

Cost Management

  • Support local cost reduction and cost avoidance initiatives.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, supplier efficiencies, and operational savings.
  • Support sourcing and negotiation activities as delegated by Procurement Management.
  • Ensure purchases are made in accordance with approved contracts and negotiated supplier agreements.

Quality and Compliance

  • Ensure suppliers meet required quality, delivery, and compliance standards.
  • Support resolution of supplier quality issues by coordinating with Quality and supplier representatives.
  • Follow procurement policies, procedures, contracts, and approved supplier requirements.
  • Ensure procurement documentation is complete, accurate, and audit-ready.
  • Promote ethical sourcing practices and compliance with company policies and applicable regulations.

Continuous Improvement

  • Participate in procurement process improvement initiatives.
  • Support implementation of procurement best practices, digital tools, and ERP enhancements.
  • Contribute to improvements in supplier performance, procurement efficiency, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain strong cross-functional relationships to support business objectives.

Requirements

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Procurement, or Business Management (or equivalent).
  • 6 to 7 years of experience in procurement / buying within a manufacturing or engineering-driven environment.
