Summary

The Global Retail Portfolio Manager is responsible for shaping and governing Dyson's global retail portfolio, ensuring investments deliver sustainable growth, optimal customer reach, and strong returns on capital.

This role combines portfolio strategy, network planning, investment governance, commercial analysis, and retail development cost management to support retail expansion, optimisation, and long-term value creation. Working closely with regional and market leaders, the Retail Portfolio Manager evaluates new opportunities, challenges investment assumptions, develops strategic recommendations, and monitors portfolio performance to ensure investments deliver against approved business cases.

The role also serves as the global subject matter expert for retail development costs, providing robust CAPEX planning, benchmarking, and investment guidance across all retail formats.

Key Responsibilities

Portfolio Strategy & Network Planning

• Develop and maintain the global retail portfolio strategy, identifying growth opportunities, optimisation actions, and whitespace opportunities.
• Conduct market assessments using demographic, catchment, competitive, economic, and consumer data to inform future network planning.
• Evaluate store expansion, relocation, refurbishment, downsizing, and closure opportunities.
• Assess the effectiveness of the current retail footprint and recommend the optimal channel mix across Direct, Indirect, E-Commerce, and Omni-channel.
• Consolidate retail performance, market potential, customer insights, and competitive intelligence to support annual retail strategies and long-term planning.
• Monitor the global retail pipeline and provide visibility of opportunities, risks, dependencies, and investment priorities.
• Develop strategic portfolio recommendations that balance customer experience, commercial performance, and capital efficiency.

Investment Governance & Business Case Management

• Assess financial assumptions, revenue forecasts, productivity expectations, and operating models and challenge investment proposals submitted by markets.
• Evaluate ROI, payback, profitability, strategic fit, and capital requirements and support scenario modelling and strategic decision-making through commercial analysis.
• Provide recommendations to senior leadership regarding investment approvals.
• Ensure investment decisions are aligned with global retail strategy, growth ambitions, and capital allocation priorities.

Business Case Performance & Portfolio Accountability

• Conduct regular post-investment reviews to assess whether approved stores and retail investments are delivering against original business case assumptions.
• Monitor performance against key investment metrics including sales, profitability, ROI, payback, productivity, customer acquisition, and operating costs and recommend corrective actions, optimisation plans, or portfolio interventions on underperforming investments.
• Evaluate portfolio returns and investment effectiveness to improve future investment decision-making.
• Develop frameworks to track business case accuracy and identify recurring forecasting risks or assumption gaps.
• Create portfolio performance reporting that provides leadership visibility of investment outcomes versus approved business cases.

Retail Development Cost Planning & Commercial Oversight

• Support Markets CAPEX estimates for boutiques, flagships, shop-in-shops, service centres, outlets, and emerging retail concepts.
• Provide development cost inputs and investment assumptions for business case preparation and develop alternative investment scenarios and comparative cost models.
• Support market teams in evaluating alternative formats, concepts, and investment options through detailed financial analysis.

Portfolio Performance & Reporting

• Maintain reporting on portfolio health, investment pipeline, network performance, and capital deployment.
• Identify opportunities to improve retail productivity, capital efficiency, and portfolio returns.
• Support senior leadership with portfolio reviews, investment prioritisation, and long-range planning exercises.

Key Competencies Required

• Ability to assess markets, identify growth opportunities, and build long-term network strategies.
• Strong understanding of retail P&L drivers and investment governance, retail portfolio economics and channel strategy.

• Advanced capability in evaluating business cases, ROI, NPV, payback, profitability, and capital investment decisions.
• Strong understanding of retail development costs, CAPEX planning, fit-out benchmarking, and store economics.

• Strong analytical capabilities to assess the effectiveness of existing investments and challenge performance against approved business cases, and recommend corrective actions.

• Ability to model multiple investment scenarios and synthesise multiple data sources into clear investment recommendations.
• Experience using performance, demographic, market, customer, and competitive data.

• Strong communication skills and ability to influence senior leaders and challenge assumptions without direct authority.

• Ability to balance customer experience objectives with investment efficiency.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain disciplined portfolio governance.
