Principal Storage Software Engineer - Cloud & Distributed Storage

About the Role

• We are looking for a highly experienced Storage Software Engineerwith 15+ years of software engineering experienceto architect, design, and build highly scalable Block, File, and Object Storage platforms anddatabase-aware storageplatforms running in Kubernetes environments.
• This role is ideal for a senior technical leader who can architect, design, code, influence, and own complex storage systems end-to-end. You will play a key role in defining the technical direction and evolution of our storage platform while driving engineering excellence and raising the technical bar across the organization.
• This is a deeply hands-on engineering rolethat combines strong systems programming and coding skills with storage architecture, distributed systems expertise, and technical leadership. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable defining long-term architecture, writing production-quality code, solving complex performance and reliability problems, and guiding engineers through the design and delivery of large-scale storage systems.

What You’ll Do

• Architect and develop highly scalable block, file, and object storage systems.

• Build database-aware storage optimized for PostgreSQL, relational databases, distributed databases, and other stateful workloads.

• Use AI coding agents to your advantage to boost productivity and lead us to the future of AI native engineering. Capable of giving the right context and detailed requirements to the Agent.

• Design storage data planes and control planes for Kubernetes environments.

• Develop Kubernetes-native storage integrations using CSI, operators, controllers, CRDs, and storage classes.

• Write production-quality systems software in C++, Go, Rust, Java.

• Design for high availability, data durability, fault tolerance, replication, recovery, snapshots, cloning, and disaster recovery.

• Optimize storage for IOPS, throughput, latency, tail latency, CPU efficiency, and network utilization.

• Debug complex problems across databases, Kubernetes, Linux, networking, and storage layers.

• Lead architecture and design reviews and establish technical direction for storage platforms.

• Mentor engineers while remaining deeply hands-on with architecture, design, coding, and troubleshooting.

• Be responsible for the outcome of the domain’s work.

What We’re Looking For

• Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering.

• 15-18 years of software engineering experience with strong expertise in storage, distributed systems, databases, or infrastructure software.

• Deep knowledge of storage domains: block, file, object, or database storage.

• Strong systems programming skills in C++, Go, Rust, Java.

• Strong understanding of Linux storage and I/O architecture.

• Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale.

• Strong Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure experience.

• Understanding of distributed systems concepts including replication, consensus, consistency, failure detection, data placement, and recovery.

• Experience with storage technologies and protocols such as NVMe, NVMe-oF, SCSI/iSCSI, UBD, S3, CSI, io_uring, SPDK, or similar technologies.

• Ability to lead technically while remaining a hands-on engineer who designs, codes, reviews, benchmarks, and debugs production systems.

Technical Leadership

As a Principal Engineer, you will help define the long-term technical direction for our storage platform. You will work across storage, database, Kubernetes, networking, hardware, and infrastructure engineering teams to build reliable, high-performance storage services for business-critical workloads.

We are looking for an engineer who can operate from architecture to code to production-someone who can design the system, build critical components, analyze performance, diagnose difficult failures, and lead other engineers in delivering storage infrastructure at scale.
