AWS Migration Platform Engineer
Location: Mexico
Type: Full-time
Job Summary
We are seeking Engineers for our On-Premises to AWS S3 Migration Platform team, a high-visibility program that builds and operates a secure, scalable platform to move object storage data from on-premises S3-compatible storage to AWS S3. You will partner with application owners, storage engineering, cloud platform, and networking teams to deliver reliable, governed, and auditable migrations at enterprise scale.
Responsibilities
Own the end-to-end migration workflow from on-premises source buckets to AWS S3, covering manifest-based and non-manifest paths.
Build and operate AWS orchestration using Step Functions, Lambda, Fargate, AWS Batch, DynamoDB, SQS, and rclone, including batching, sharding, and retry handling.
Automate pre-flight dry-run validation and implement source freeze with enforcement checks before any transfer.
Operate the rclone-based migration runtime with secure credential handling (Kerberos keytab, STS role assumption) and KMS-encrypted destinations.
Build post-migration reconciliation checks: object count/size, checksums, drift detection, version completeness, and configuration parity.
Track and enforce the point-of-no-return cutover, including owner acknowledgment and sealing of the source.
Implement governance for bandwidth, queues, prioritisation, and throttling across concurrent migrations, with DynamoDB-backed state tracking.
Build CloudWatch dashboards, alerts, and health checks; report progress, escalations, and blockers via Jira to stakeholders and senior leadership.
Continuously automate manual verification steps and collaborate with Cloud Platform, Storage Engineering, and Networking teams to resolve issues.

Familiarity with change management in regulated financial industries.
Core Technical Competencies
Amazon S3 and S3-compatible APIs (e.g., Dell ECS), including versioning, lifecycle policies, and large object transfers.
Hands-on rclone experience for high-volume transfers (checksums, retries, bandwidth limiting).
AWS serverless and compute: Lambda, Step Functions, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, API Gateway, ECS Fargate, AWS Batch.
DynamoDB table design and state-management patterns.
Networking: Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, VPCs, S3 Gateway Endpoints.

Tools & Stack
CloudWatch, GitLab pipelines, Jira, PowerShell, Bash, Excel reporting.
IDEs: VS Code, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm.
AI assistants: GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude.
Core Competencies
Strong team player who collaborates across teams and global time zones.
