Product Developer - Architectural Surfaces

Full Time | Permanent - Sydney, Australia

We are looking for…

Hopefully, you! New surfaces at Eco Outdoor begin with an idea from our Design team. As our Product Developer - Architectural Surfaces, you’ll take those ideas and see them through. You’ll work closely with suppliers, sampling, trialling and refining until each product is resolved, validated and ready for launch.

This is a new role, created to give our core category dedicated development capability as we take on our biggest-ever launch pipeline and continue to grow in the US. You’ll report to our Head of Product Development and work closely with our Head of Design, Product Manager - Architectural Surfaces, suppliers and Supply Chain team.

What you’ll do

  • Product development: Lead new and evolved surface products from Design handover to final resolution. You’ll translate design intent, material possibilities, supplier capabilities and commercial requirements into a clear path through sampling, trials, refinement and final selection.
  • Product readiness: Make sure every product is fully resolved for how it will be specified, sampled, purchased, transported and handled. You’ll bring together samples, specifications, quality standards, testing and installation requirements, solving risks before handover to Product Management.
  • Market insight: Gather and interpret market data, customer feedback, sales insights, competitor activity and category trends, alongside practical installation and builder considerations. You’ll turn these into clear insights that inform development decisions and challenge assumptions.
  • Development capability: Build material expertise, supplier relationships and a shared knowledge base. You’ll capture what we learn and help refine the processes and tools that shape how the function grows.
  • Sustainability & supplier due diligence: Gather and verify supplier and product-level information, including environmental data, modern slavery due diligence and Supplier Code of Conduct compliance. You’ll set up consistent ways of recording it so the right evidence is always on hand.

Where you’ll work

This is a permanent, full-time role (Monday to Friday) based at our Waterloo head office in Sydney, with hybrid working arrangements. International travel is required several times a year, with frequency depending on business needs.

Please note: Applicants must have existing Australian working rights and be comfortable travelling internationally (after 12 months).

Requirements

What you’ll bring

  • At least two years’ experience in a related industry, such as architecture, interior design or the building trades
  • Experience as a Product Developer or Brand/Product Manager in any product business is a bonus
  • No formal qualification needed; a curious, technical mind matters more than your background
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • A commercial mindset, grounded in a clear understanding of the customer and the market

How you work

  • You pair a genuine curiosity for design with strong technical judgement
  • You’re a true collaborator who builds strong relationships with suppliers and internal partners
  • You’re practical, process-minded and focused on solutions

Benefits

In return, we’ll give you…

Perks, benefits and the space to grow. We offer a competitive salary, a comprehensive benefits package and plenty of opportunities for career growth and development. This includes:

  • The opportunities you need to grow, develop and craft a career you’re proud of within the global Eco Outdoor business
  • Paid parental leave, so we can look after you while you welcome a new human
  • A 50 per cent off employee discount on Eco Outdoor products
  • Company-sponsored shenanigans and activities to connect with your team and the broader Eco Outdoor crew, from axe-throwing escapades to lawn bowls and trivia nights
  • A culture of unbelievable hospitality… hello in house barista coffee machine
  • The opportunity to give back via our internal Social Housing and Sustainability teams.

OK, you want to know what you’re getting yourself into? Let us introduce ourselves.
