Egis is a leading global architectural, consulting, construction engineering, operations and mobility services firm. We create and operate intelligent infrastructure and buildings that both respond to the climate emergency and contribute to balanced, sustainable and resilient development. Our 23,500 employees operate across over 100 countries, deploying their expertise to develop and deliver cutting-edge innovations and solutions for clients. Through the wide range of our activities, we are central to the collective organisation of society and the living environment of citizens all over the world.
Egis has delivered some of the world's most iconic metro projects, ranging from Lyon's first standard-gauge automated metro in the 1990s to the world's current longest automated metro network: the Riyadh Metro. The metro market is witnessing strong growth as it will contribute to the mobility of the growing global population living in urban areas.
The System Engineer supports the definition, integration, and delivery of complex metro systems, ensuring that technical requirements, interfaces, and system performance are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.
The role combines systems engineering, requirements and interface management, technical coordination, verification and validation, and multidisciplinary collaboration to ensure safe, compliant, and integrated system delivery.
Working closely with engineering disciplines, project teams, clients, suppliers, and other stakeholders, the System Engineer supports technical decision-making and successful delivery from design and integration through testing, commissioning, and acceptance.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and maintain the System Assurance / RAMS Plan and associated framework, defining assurance activities, responsibilities, deliverables, reviews, acceptance criteria and interfaces with Systems Engineering, design, integration, testing and commissioning.
- Define, manage and demonstrate RAMS requirements and targets across the lifecycle, including reliability, availability, maintainability and safety objectives, allocation and compliance status.
- Perform reliability and availability analyses and demonstrations using appropriate methods such as Reliability Block Diagrams, failure-rate/MTBF calculations, availability modelling, maintainability/MTTR assessment, reliability prediction and sensitivity analysis.
- Undertake FMEA/FMECA and support maintainability and maintenance-related assessments to identify critical failure modes, design improvements and operational or maintenance mitigations.
- Lead or facilitate hazard identification and risk assessment activities including PHA, HAZID, HAZOP, SHA/SSHA, interface hazard analysis and operational hazard analysis, maintaining hazard records through mitigation and closure.
- Develop and review Fault Tree Analysis and Event Tree Analysis to evaluate failure combinations, safety risk contributors and the effectiveness of mitigation measures.
- Develop and manage safety requirements arising from hazard and risk analyses, supporting integrity allocation where applicable and maintaining traceability to design, verification evidence and hazard closure.
- Prepare and maintain core assurance evidence including hazard logs, RAMS registers, safety analyses, assurance reports, compliance statements, RAMS demonstration reports and contributions to Safety Cases / safety justification documentation.
- Review supplier and subsystem RAMS and safety submissions for adequacy, consistency and compliance; track comments, actions, assumptions and residual risks to closure.
- Support independent assessment, authority and client assurance reviews by preparing objective evidence, responding to findings and demonstrating compliance with applicable project standards, approvals and certification requirements.
- Monitor RAMS and safety performance through design, integration, testing, commissioning and operational readiness, using available test, failure and maintenance data to support reliability growth and demonstration of contracted targets.
- Identify assurance risks, dependencies and non-compliances early, recommend proportionate mitigation, and ensure committed RAMS and safety deliverables are achieved to agreed quality and programme objectives.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Railway Engineering, Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical or a related engineering discipline. A relevant postgraduate qualification or professional safety/RAMS certification is advantageous.
- Minimum 12 years of relevant experience in system assurance, RAMS, functional safety or railway safety engineering, preferably on major rail, metro, high-speed rail or other safety-critical infrastructure programmes.
- Proven experience developing System Assurance / RAMS Plans and delivering RAMS and safety assurance activities through design, integration, testing, commissioning and acceptance.
- Strong experience in hazard analysis and risk assessment, including PHA, HAZID/HAZOP, FMEA/FMECA, FTA and, where required, ETA and subsystem/system hazard analyses.
- Practical capability in reliability, availability and maintainability calculations and demonstrations, including MTBF/MTTR, failure-rate analysis, RBD-based availability modelling, maintainability assessment and reliability prediction.
- Experience developing safety requirements, hazard logs, RAMS registers, demonstration reports, assurance evidence and Safety Case / safety justification inputs.
- Working knowledge of railway RAMS and functional-safety standards including EN 50126 / IEC 62278 and EN 50129 / IEC 62425; knowledge of EN 50716 and legacy EN 50128 project baselines for railway software is beneficial. Exposure to IEC 61508 and applicable local/regional railway safety processes is advantageous.
- Experience interfacing professionally with systems engineers, domain specialists, design managers, integration/test teams, operators, maintainers, suppliers, clients and independent assessors.
- Experience with large-scale infrastructure programmes and multicultural/international project teams is advantageous.
- Strong analytical, technical-reporting and communication skills, with the ability to present assurance conclusions, assumptions, risks and recommendations clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders
Software & Analysis Tools
- IBM DOORS or equivalent requirements/assurance traceability tools.
- RAMS and safety analysis tools such as Isograph Reliability Workbench, Item Toolkit, ReliaSoft or equivalent for FMEA/FMECA, FTA, RBD, reliability and availability modelling.
