Introduction & Summary

The Head of Software Engineering builds the people, competence, technology, and engineering practices that enable product teams to develop high-quality software. The role combines people leadership with technical and organizational leadership, ensuring strong software engineering capability today while continuously developing the organization for future needs.

Main Responsibilities

The Head of Software Engineering is responsible for leading and developing the organization's software engineering capability across mobile applications, backend services, and web/frontend development.

  • Lead and develop the Software Engineering organization.

  • Establish effective functional structures that support cross-functional product teams.

  • Ensure the right mix of competencies, experience, and seniority across software disciplines.

  • Build a strong engineering culture based on ownership, collaboration, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure effective collaboration between mobile, backend, frontend, embedded, hardware, test, Product, and UX disciplines.

Key Requirements

  • Strong leadership and people management capability.

  • Broad understanding of modern software engineering and architecture.

  • Experience leading software organizations across multiple technologies or platforms.

  • Ability to lead through senior specialists rather than being the technical decision-maker for every issue.

  • Strong understanding of modern development practices, automation, CI/CD, security, and software quality.

  • Ability to balance technical excellence, legacy constraints, delivery needs, and long-term sustainability.

  • Understanding of regulated product development is highly desirable.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with mobile application development, primarily Flutter/Dart.

  • Experience with backend and cloud development.

  • Knowledge of software engineering practices, tools, and development environments.
