Rust Backend Developer - Payments

Introduction & Summary

The role involves collaborating with a dedicated engineering team to develop advanced payment solutions over a three-month assignment. An experienced Backend Developer with a solid grasp of payment systems and a collaborative mindset is essential. The successful candidate should have extensive knowledge of Rust, PostgreSQL, and containerized development environments, contributing to the innovative environment focusing on creativity and mutual support.

Main Responsibilities

Key responsibilities for this role include:

• Design and implement backend components for payment systems.

• Contribute to architecture and technical design discussions.

• Integrate with payment networks, banks, PSPs, and related financial systems.

• Develop secure, scalable, and high-performance services.

• Support API design and system integration.

• Review architecture, code, and security aspects.

• Collaborate with internal teams and external partners.

Key Requirements

The essential qualifications and skills include:

• 5+ years of backend software development experience.

• Payment domain experience.

• Experience building high-availability, distributed backend components.

• Experience with cloud-native development (Docker, CI/CD).

• Strong understanding of software security, authentication, encryption, and secure coding practices.

• Experience with performance optimization and scalability.

Nice to Have

Additional competencies that are beneficial:

• Experience with card payment systems (EMV).

• Knowledge of instant payment infrastructures.

• Experience with payment gateways or Payment Service Providers (PSPs).

• Familiarity with core banking integrations.

• Knowledge of digital wallets and mobile payments.

• Understanding of CBDC, tokenized money, stablecoins, or digital asset infrastructure.

• Experience with offline payment solutions.

• Knowledge of settlement and clearing systems.

• Familiarity with PCI DSS or similar payment security standards.

• Duration: Approximately 3 months (with possibility of extension).

• Location: Preferably Malmö, Sweden, with flexibility for remote work depending on the candidate.
