Ember® offers patented temperature controlled mugs, travel mugs, tumblers & baby bottle systems. Browse our collections of temperature controlled drinkware.

Ember is the UK's first all-electric coach company. We launched in October 2020 and are now running on more than twenty routes - including Dundee to Glasgow, Aberdeen to Edinburgh and Inverness to Fort William - with several further routes launching later in 2026. We are at advanced stages in developing new charging hubs in Kirkcaldy and Glasgow, with many more sites in the pipeline.

As we accelerate our network footprint across Scotland, we are launching a new maintenance and engineering facility in Dundee.

We’re looking for a skilled, reliable and motivated Coach Builder and SMART Repair Technician to join our electric bus maintenance team. This is a hands-on, varied role suited to someone with a practical background who is comfortable working in a busy workshop environment. You won't be expected to be a fully qualified mechanic, but you'll work closely alongside our team of technicians and play a vital part in keeping our zero-emission fleet on the road.

The ideal candidate will be experienced, energetic and confident with the passion to stay on top of the latest developments in the electric vehicle market. This will be a Dundee-based role - but you’ll also be working closely with the teams in Aberdeen, Livingston and Inverness. We’ll make sure that you’re set up for success, with all necessary training, access to the right vehicle and all of the relevant tools and equipment.

This position sits in the middle of bus cosmetic preservation and heavy vehicle structural layout. You will take the lead on end-to-end ownership of bodywork projects-diagnosing alignments, completing structural adjustments, and carrying out surface prep for the panel wrapping team. We need someone who can assess a vehicle and quickly understand exactly how panels and components need to be adjusted or pulled to sit correctly.

This is a truly unique challenge - our coaches are used more intensively than any other electric vehicles in the world so not every problem will have a solution that can be found in a manual. Instead, your team will need to work closely with the manufacturer, go deep into understanding root causes and think creatively about how we could be avoiding the problem altogether in the future.

We’re looking for a problem-solver who will help to identify and resolve issues quickly, and will relish the challenge of joining a new team that will make our state of the art fleet the best-maintained in the country with the lowest downtime.

If you're practical by nature, take pride in your work, and want to build a career in the growing world of electric vehicle maintenance, this could be the perfect opportunity.

Responsibilities

  • End-End Ownership: Scope out, manage, and execute repair jobs from initial diagnosis through to final panel alignment and

wrap-ready delivery.

  • Panel & Frame Realignment: Look at commercial body frameworks and instinctively figure out structural variances-knowing

what needs to be pulled, moved, or mechanically adjusted this way or that to achieve true lines.

  • Wrap Preparation: Execute light bodywork prep, ensuring panels are correctly filled, blocked, sanded, and degreased to

receive high-quality vinyl wrapping.

  • SMART Repairs: Resolve local paint defects, deep scratches, scuffs, and minor panel punctures.
  • Resource & Parts Estimation: Evaluate damage early to determine the parts required for completion, minimising downtime.

Estimate job timeframes realistically from start to finish.

  • HSE Compliance: Maintain a proactive understanding of Health, Safety, and Environment regulations, safely navigating a

workshop environment dedicated to high-voltage electric coaches.

We currently have a team of fifteen employees dedicated to fleet maintenance. You’ll form part of a department that brings all aspects of our maintenance in-house as we continue to grow.

We use technology heavily in the business, primarily building our own software systems. You'll need to be tech-savvy, open to learning new systems and comfortable using remote diagnostics.

Requirements

You will need to meet these requirements:

  • Technical Background: Experienced Coach Builder or SMART Repair Specialist, ideally bringing a background working with HGVs, PSVs, or heavy commercial coaches, however alternative experience would also be considered.

  • Structural Instinct: A good eye for vehicle geometry; someone who visualises panel alignments and can correct framework

    distortions independently.

  • Operational Autonomy: A self-starter capable of working under their own initiative without needing step-by-step guidance,

also with strong time management skills to hit fleet deadlines

  • Health & Safety Literacy: A solid understanding for workplace safety standards, handling of equipment, and awareness of

    active workshop environments.

  • Licence: Must hold a valid UK driving licence.
