Based in Shakopee, MN, this role is part of Emerson's Cross Portfolio Technology and Innovation team, where you will help develop connectivity technologies used across Emerson's measurement and analytical instrumentation portfolio. You will work with a global team of firmware, hardware, systems, and product engineers to design and implement embedded software solutions that enable secure, reliable, and scalable industrial communications.
In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
- Design, develop, test, and maintain embedded firmware for industrial instrumentation and connectivity solutions.
- Contribute to the architecture and implementation of wired and wireless communication technologies across Emerson's instrument portfolio.
- Develop software for distributed embedded systems utilizing modern microcontrollers, processors, operating systems, and networking technologies.
- Collaborate with hardware, systems, cloud, cybersecurity, and product engineering teams throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware, firmware, and communication issues and drive effective root-cause resolution.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and contribute to proof-of-concept and innovation initiatives that support Emerson's digital transformation strategy.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, software requirements, design specifications, and verification plans.
- Participate in code reviews, automated testing, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance software quality and development efficiency.
- Mentor other engineers and provide technical leadership within project teams.
- Collaborate effectively with globally distributed teams to deliver high-quality technical solutions.

For This Role, You Will Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent
- Five (5) or more years of applicable experience
- Ability to meet with globally distributed team members occasionally

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:
Experience developing embedded software in C and/or C++.
Experience with Git, Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, or similar software development toolchains.
Experience with 10 or 100BASE-T1S/L Ethernet in Automotive/Industrial applications
Experience with ARM-based microcontrollers, embedded processors, and real-time operating systems.
Experience implementing and integrating embedded TCP/IP networking stacks and network management/monitoring protocols (e.g., SNMP).
Proficiency with lab bench instrumentation for embedded development and debugging - oscilloscopes, logic/protocol analyzers, packet capture, etc.

Our compensation philosophy is simple: we pay a competitive base salary, within the local market in which we operate, and reward performance during our annual merit review process. The salary range for this role is $110,000-$145,000 annually, commensurate with the skills, talent, capabilities, and experience each candidate brings to a role.
