The Opportunity

We are seeking a hands-on Technical Lead to define & develop the technical vision & implementation approach for our most ambitious projects, such as Retirement Solutions.

In this role, you will hold strategic responsibility for project architecture, looking beyond immediate feature delivery to design scalable, resilient systems capable of handling complex financial workflows. Acting as the bridge between business goals and engineering execution, you will ensure our technical choices support long-term scalability & stability while adhering to strict regulatory standards.

What You'll Do

• Design System Architecture: Translate complex business requirements into robust, scalable technical designs for the retirement vertical.
• Drive Technical Strategy: Make high-level decisions on technology stacks and integration patterns (Build vs. Buy) to ensure long-term viability.
• Ensure Compliance: Embed security and regulatory requirements (e.g., MAS TRM) into the architecture from the start to ensure system resilience.
• Drive Implementation: Ensure that the code delivered matches the architectural vision and quality standards.
• Manage Technical Debt: Proactively identify bottlenecks and create roadmaps to address tech OKRs.
• Mentor Engineers: Provide technical guidance to senior engineers, helping them develop their architectural thinking and design skills.

What You'll Bring

The Must-Haves:

• 8+ Years of Experience: Significant experience in software engineering and system architecture, specifically within FinTech, Banking, or complex enterprise systems.
• Architectural Expertise: Proven ability to design microservices, event-driven architectures, and scalable cloud-native solutions (AWS/GCP).
• Strategic Problem Solving: Ability to frame ambiguous technical problems and develop long-term roadmaps that align with business goals.
• Tech Stack: Expert level fluency in a JVM language such as Scala, Java, or Kotlin. Strong experience with Cassandra, Kafka, and relational databases.
• Operational Maturity: Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps, and site reliability engineering (SRE) principles.
• Communication: Ability to explain complex architectural concepts to non-technical stakeholders and drive consensus across cross-functional teams.
• Security Focus: Deep knowledge of secure coding practices and data protection standards required for regulated financial institutions.

The Nice-to-Haves:

• Experience designing systems for Pension Administration, Ledger Management, Portfolio Management or Payments.
• Hands-on Scala/Akka Experience: You have used Akka Streams or Akka Cluster in production.
• Event Sourcing/CQRS: You have built systems where state is derived from a log of events.

Our Tech Stack

• Backend: Written in Scala/Akka. We are heavy users of DDD, Event Sourcing, and CQRS. APIs are tested using Cucumber-Scala.
• Data & Messaging: We use Kafka for async communication between services. Cassandra is our transactional database & PostgreSQL is our read-side database. Our data lake is built using Spark/Athena.
• Frontend: The web app is in TypeScript/React (e2e tested with Playwright). The mobile app is in Dart/Flutter (tested with flutter_test & Maestro).
• Ops: We are 100% cloud-native (AWS) and rely heavily on CI/CD & IaC for automated deployments & operations.
