The Sr. Manager, Strategic Procurement develops and executes enterprise-wide sourcing and category-management strategies across Enviva's purchased goods, equipment, and services - including MRO,  spare parts, capital equipment, & contract and professional service. Reporting to the VP, Capital Projects & Procurement, this role leads a team of procurement professionals to deliver cost savings, mitigate supply risk, strengthen supplier relationships, and drive value across all sites and marine terminals.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and execute strategic sourcing and category-management plans across assigned spend categories, such as MRO, spare parts, capital equipment & contract and professional services, to deliver total-cost-of-ownership savings and value.
  • Own the end-to-end sourcing process, including spend analysis, market and supplier research, RFP development and execution, bid analysis, negotiation, supplier selection, and contract award.
  • Lead complex commercial negotiations and draft, negotiate, and administer supplier contracts, master service agreements, and pricing agreements in partnership with Legal and internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain a supplier relationship and performance-management program, including supplier qualification, scorecards, business reviews, and continuous-improvement initiatives with strategic suppliers.
  • Partner with plant operations, maintenance, engineering, capital projects, and finance & accounting to understand requirements, forecast demand, and align sourcing strategies with operational and business objectives.
  • Develop and deploy supply-risk mitigation strategies - assurance of supply, supplier diversification, commodity and tariff exposure, and single-source risk - to protect continuity of operations across all sites and marine terminals.
  • Establish, document, and maintain procurement policies, procedures, and workflows, and drive consistent, compliant sourcing practices across the enterprise.
  • Identify, quantify, and track cost-savings and cost-avoidance opportunities, and report savings and category performance against targets to procurement and business leadership.
  • Define, measure, and report key procurement metrics and KPIs, such as savings, spend under management, supplier performance, and cycle time, using data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and develop a team of procurement and sourcing professionals, setting priorities and building organizational capability. Many of these procurement professionals sit at each of our plant and port locations.
  • Leverage ERP and procurement systems and analytics tools to improve spend visibility, streamline the procure-to-pay process, and enhance decision-making.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to standardize specifications, consolidate spend, and capture leverage across sites and business units.
  • Monitor market trends, commodity dynamics, and supply-base developments, and communicate implications and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Support the buildout & management of a SKU catalog driving on-SKU addressable spend to >90% across the enterprise

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor's degree preferred, preferably in supply chain management, business, engineering, or a related field, and a minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment with experience in procurement and sourcing.
  • Competence in strategic sourcing, category management, competitive bidding, and total-cost-of-ownership analysis.
  • Contract negotiation and supplier-management skills across direct and indirect spend categories.
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and mentor procurement teams.
  • Must be data-driven with a high level of attention to detail and strong analytical and financial acumen.
  • Experience with ERP and procurement or spend-analytics systems (e.g., D365, SAP, Oracle, or similar).
  • Must be a self-starter with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple sourcing initiatives simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated sense of urgency and sound judgment in a fast-paced environment.
  • Written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and present to diverse audiences
  • Ability to develop and implement strategic plans through persuasion, education, and collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently and make effective, critical decisions, often with limited information and oversight.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with and include others across the organization.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, with the ability to learn other applications related to the job.

Preferred Qualifications - What Will Set You Apart

  • Professional procurement certification such as CPSM, C.P.M., or CIPS.
  • Experience sourcing for manufacturing or industrial operations, particularly MRO and capital equipment categories.
  • Experience with Power BI or comparable data-visualization and spend-analytics tools.

Travel requirements

Some travel as needed to support site, terminal, and supplier visits.

Working Conditions

  • Willing and able to maintain strict adherence to safety rules and regulations, to include wearing safety equipment.
