Senior Software Engineer (Kong API Gateway)

This role supports the CTO's office of a large asset management company in managing the client's Kong API Gateway product. The position focuses on designing and developing backend applications, serverless components, and microservices that power enterprise-grade API management, security, and integration capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop backend applications, serverless functions, and microservices supporting enterprise API management
• Build and maintain REST APIs and API management solutions using Kong API Gateway and Kong Konnect
• Develop and deploy serverless components using AWS Lambda
• Collaborate within a SCRUM team, following Agile methodology
• Implement API security measures, including OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, SSL/TLS, and mTLS
• Support CI/CD pipelines and GitOps practices for continuous deployment
• Monitor and troubleshoot production systems using CloudWatch and Splunk

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; Master's degree in Computer Science is a plus
• 5+ years of experience designing and developing backend applications, serverless architectures, microservices, REST APIs, and API management solutions
• Practical experience with Kong API Gateway, Kong Konnect, REST APIs, API Management, API Security
• Proficiency in Node.js and/or Python
• Knowledge of AWS services: ECS, S3, Lambda, CloudFormation, Route 53, IAM, Secrets Manager
• Experience with DevOps and observability tools, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes, GitOps, CI/CD pipelines, Bash, CloudWatch, and Splunk
• Experience with most of the following technologies: OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect (OIDC), JWT, SSL/TLS, mTLS
• Experience working within a SCRUM team and Agile methodology
• Excellent communication skills, fluent in English, with the ability to work in a client-facing capacity
