The Crew Lead - Data Center Services is responsible for on-site coordination, supervision, and execution of data center logistics activities. This role ensures safe, efficient, and compliant handling of high-value equipment, including server racks and related infrastructure. The Crew Lead serves as the primary on-site point of contact, overseeing delivery crews, enforcing safety standards, and ensuring adherence to customer-specific requirements and Expeditors’ operational excellence standards.

Key Responsibilities

Crew Coordination & Planning

  • Coordinate and schedule delivery crews to ensure timely arrival at data center sites
  • Ensure all necessary equipment is available and functional, including PPE, electric pallet jacks, rack lifts, and specialized tools
  • Verify team readiness and alignment with job scope prior to site arrival by communicating or creating a clear SOP

On-Site Supervision & Safety

  • Act as the on-site lead and primary coordinator at data center facilities
  • Enforce strict adherence to safety protocols, customer requirements, and site regulations
  • Conduct pre-task briefings and ensure all personnel follow established procedures

Customer Engagement Skills

  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, dynamic environments with shifting priorities
  • Ability to tailor communication style based on the audience (management, operational, tactical)
  • Maintain professionalism, composure, and empathy in all customer interactions
  • Experience coordinating across multiple teams - i.e. operations, sales, and service teams

Freight Handling & Operations

  • Oversee loading and unloading of inbound and outbound freight from vehicles and containers
  • Manage and verify shipping documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Support physical handling activities as needed, including:
    • Inspecting cargo
    • Moving pallets and cartons using pallet jacks
    • Assisting with material staging

Quality Control

  • Perform detailed quality checks on inbound and outbound shipments
  • Verify part numbers, quantities, and overall condition of materials
  • Ensure all equipment is received and delivered in pristine condition
  • Escalate discrepancies or damage in a timely and professional manner

Data Center Installation Support

  • Oversee the unpackaging of equipment while ensuring safety and care standards are maintained
  • Lead and assist in the placement and positioning of server racks on the data center floor (as required)
  • Ensure all activities align with customer-specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Compliance & SOP Adherence

  • Follow and enforce customer-specific SOPs and data center protocols
  • Maintain high standards of documentation, traceability, and operational compliance

Site Cleanliness & Close-Out

  • Oversee and perform post-operation cleanup activities
  • Ensure work areas are left clean, organized, and hazard-free
  • Support proper disposal of packaging materials in accordance with site guidelines

Experience

  • 3+ years of experience in logistics, warehouse operations, or data center services
  • Experience leading teams in a high-value, high-compliance environment preferred
  • Familiarity with data center operations and white-glove delivery services enhances candidacy
  • Prior experience in a customer-facing role
  • Direct vendor management experience

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong leadership and on-site coordination skills
  • Strong SOP development skills based on experience and customer goals
  • Detail-oriented with a strong focus on quality and accuracy
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high-pressure environments
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting, bending, and operating material handling equipment
  • Comfortable moving pallets and handling equipment using pallet jacks and similar tools
  • Ability to work on-site in data center environments for extended periods
  • Drive to/from site to site roughly within a 50 mi radius
