Compensation Details:

  • Sustainability 19: Salaries typically range from $112,006 to $149,341 annually, based on qualifications and experiences, plus a performance-based incentive.

Location:

  • Export Development Canada operates under a hybrid work model, with employees currently required to work from the office three days per week. Effective September 2026, this requirement will increase to three days per week and will be implemented gradually through a phased approach based on employee location. (subject to change).
  • This role can be performed from EDC’s headquarters in Ottawa or from one of our Community Hubs located in Toronto, Mississauga, Montreal, Brossard, Laval, Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, or Vancouver.

Team Overview:

Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to work in the fast-evolving field of Sustainability in the financial sector? Our Climate & Sustainable Finance (C&SF) team is seeking to recruit a new Senior Advisor to join our growing team to help build out and implement EDC’s ambitious Climate Action Plan and advance our sustainable finance efforts.

At EDC we don’t believe in silos - for climate and sustainable finance to have a meaningful impact it needs to be anchored in all we do. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing and grounding our climate-related programs and sustainable finance efforts in our core business and processes. This involves (but is not limited to) working with the business to bring sustainable finance closer to the front-line and our clients (e.g. through products, engagement, knowledge sharing, etc), seeking opportunities to further integrate climate in portfolio risk management, working with clients to build climate-capacity and bringing applied knowledge of climate and sustainable finance to keep our efforts current. Expect to have a high level of exposure across EDC’s lines of business and working with internal and external stakeholders. This role requires using exceptional communication skills, as well as credible technical expertise to engage and consult with business areas.

The Senior Advisor will report to the Director, Climate & Sustainable Finance in the Sustainability Group.

What you will be doing:

  • Leads and supports the implementation of EDC’s Climate Action Plan, through the provision of expert research, analysis and advice, as well as cross-team coordination and engagement.
  • Engages with a variety of teams across the organization to advance climate & sustainable finance initiatives.
  • Supports with the advancement of EDC’s sustainable and climate finance initiatives, including idea generation (e.g. products; engagement tactics) and direct engagement with lines of business to further integration of climate finance in EDC’s practices.
  • Supports with the advancement of EDC’s portfolio climate risk management.
  • Supports with the advancement of EDC’s client climate capacity-building efforts, including idea generation (i.e. sensible ways for EDC to engage with clients / lean into value creation opportunities) and implementation.
  • Liaises with external consultants and coordinates their efforts to ensure they are delivering on EDC’s requirements.
  • Monitors emerging ESG trends, conduct research and analysis and ability to convert insights to tangible deliverables supporting the delivery of the Climate Action Plan.

What we are looking for:

  • Undergraduate degree in environmental studies, law, engineering, business or science (including climate change science)
  • Minimum of 7-8 years of financial services experience and/or working in the sustainability space
  • Demonstrated experience in the intersection between climate change and financial services (i.e. “applied” knowledge of climate).
  • Experience with program development, implementation and/or training
  • Ability to align and adjust milestone and targets to maintain forward momentum
  • Strong communication skills (written, verbal, presentation), including effective business writing skills

What will make you stand out:

  • Master's degree in a Sustainability, Climate Change or Finance-related subject
  • Deeper sector knowledge of energy, agrifood and/or mining (critical minerals) sectors
  • Deeper applied knowledge of sustainable finance (e.g. products; client outreach) and experience with sustainable finance integration
  • Deeper knowledge of integrating climate in portfolio risk management (in FI context)
  • Experience working with financed emissions calculations and modelling
  • Bilingual in both official languages (Nice to have)
