F5

F5 is an American application delivery and security company founded in 1996 that built its business on the BIG-IP load balancer, a device that sits in front of applications and distributes traffic across servers. As applications moved to cloud and containers it extended the same position into web application firewalling, bot defence, application programming interface security and multi-cloud networking, largely through the acquisitions of NGINX, Shape Security and Volterra. Headquartered in Seattle and listed on Nasdaq, it serves large enterprises and service providers whose most critical applications still run through its equipment.

At F5, we strive to bring a better digital world to life. Our teams empower organizations across the globe to create, secure, and run applications that enhance how we experience our evolving digital world. We are passionate about cybersecurity, from protecting consumers from fraud to enabling companies to focus on innovation.

Everything we do centers around people. That means we obsess over how to make the lives of our customers, and their customers, better. And it means we prioritize a diverse F5 community where each individual can thrive.

Role Overview:

The Senior Network Engineer designs, builds, and operates secure, reliable, and scalable network services across global data centers, cloud platforms, and F5’s IP backbone, including regulated environments. This engineering-focused role owns network reliability, performance, automation, and complex incident resolution while delivering improvements to routing architectures and connectivity.

Working closely with Architecture, Product, Security, Compliance, Build, and Operations teams, the Senior Network Engineer drives initiatives from design through deployment, strengthens operational practices, and mentors engineers. Success requires deep technical expertise, sound operational judgment, and a commitment to “be kind” through respectful communication, open collaboration, and an inclusive team culture.

What You’ll Do:

  • Engineer, build, and operate network solutions supporting global data centers, cloud platforms, and product connectivity.
  • Optimize global backbone routing and highly available Layer 3 architectures using BGP, OSPF, routing policies, redundancy, and traffic engineering.
  • Implement secure segmentation, boundary controls, and traffic isolation to meet security and compliance requirements.
  • Deliver hybrid and cloud-native connectivity across AWS, Azure, and GCP using dedicated interconnects, VPNs, transit gateways, and cloud routing services.
  • Develop and maintain network automation using Python, Ansible/AWX, and Git-driven CI/CD workflows for provisioning, configuration, compliance, and validation.
  • Own day-to-day network availability and performance through proactive monitoring, telemetry, capacity planning, configuration drift detection, and lifecycle management.
  • Troubleshoot complex routing, switching, TCP/IP, and connectivity issues; lead or support major incidents in accordance with escalation and reporting procedures.
  • Execute changes, upgrades, and migrations using documented methods of procedure (MOPs), approvals, pre- and post-change validation, and tested rollback plans.
  • Partner with Security and Compliance teams to remediate vulnerabilities and maintain secure network software, firmware, and configurations.
  • Build security controls and compliance checks into automated workflows, including least privilege, encryption, logging, evidence collection, and safe rollback.
  • Validate network software, routing changes, automation, and security controls in controlled environments before production deployment.
  • Translate product, platform, and regulatory requirements into actionable network designs and delivery plans with clear timelines and dependencies.
  • Manage vendor escalations, procurement, RMA workflows, and equipment lifecycle; evaluate technologies for resilience, performance, automation, compliance suitability, and cost.

What You Bring:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of network engineering experience in large-scale, multi-region, and global routing environments.
  • Deep hands-on expertise with BGP and OSPF, including route propagation, routing policy, traffic engineering, ECMP, route reflectors, and multi-vendor interoperability.
  • Strong engineering and operational experience with JunOS; experience with Juniper MX, QFX, and SRX platforms preferred. Familiarity with EOS, NX-OS, or IOS-XE is a plus.
  • Advanced knowledge of F5 BIG-IP architecture, iRules, LTM, DNS/GTM, SSL/TLS, WAF (ASM/AWAF), and highly available enterprise deployments.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across routing, switching, TCP/IP, asymmetric paths, latency, packet loss, MTU/fragmentation, and QoS, using logs, packet captures, and network diagnostic tools.
  • Hands-on experience with hybrid and cloud-native networking in AWS, Azure, and/or GCP, including services such as Direct Connect, ExpressRoute, Transit Gateway, Virtual WAN, and cloud routers.
  • Proficiency in Python, Ansible/AWX, configuration templating, Git workflows, and automated testing and validation pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of network security controls, boundary protection, segmentation, encryption, and logging.
  • Familiarity with firewalls, VPNs, DDoS mitigation, IDS/IPS, and NIST 800-53-based security frameworks.
  • Strong incident leadership and cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to coordinate teams effectively under pressure.
  • An analytical, structured approach to problem-solving and the ability to manage competing priorities in fast-paced, regulated environments.
