Overview
F5 is an American application delivery and security company founded in 1996 that built its business on the BIG-IP load balancer, a device that sits in front of applications and distributes traffic across servers. As applications moved to cloud and containers it extended the same position into web application firewalling, bot defence, application programming interface security and multi-cloud networking, largely through the acquisitions of NGINX, Shape Security and Volterra. Headquartered in Seattle and listed on Nasdaq, it serves large enterprises and service providers whose most critical applications still run through its equipment.
