Farnsworth Group is seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer - HVAC/Building Systems. In this role you will lead and assume multi-project responsibilities for HVAC, plumbing, fire protection and specialty piping system engineering and design for buildings including healthcare, commercial, industrial, government and educational facilities. In this role, you will guide HVAC and mechanical design delivery from early concept through construction administration, with a strong emphasis on coordination, technical quality, and client service.

 What You’ll Do

  • Lead mechanical design efforts for building systems projects from concept through construction documents and construction support.
  • Develop HVAC, mechanical, plumbing, controls and specialty piping system designs, including air distribution, hydronic systems, central plant connections, pressurization, and related piping or ventilation components.
  • Coordinate work with architects, structural engineers, electrical engineers, plumbing disciplines, contractors, and other consultants to produce fully integrated documents.
  • Prepare and review calculations, equipment selections, drawings, narratives, and specifications.
  • Apply applicable codes, standards, and industry practices throughout design and documentation.
  • Provide field support through site observations, existing-condition surveys, punch walks, submittal review, and other construction administration activities.
  • Help manage technical quality, project schedules, budgets, and deliverable coordination across multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Mentor junior staff, support team development, and provide QA/QC guidance as needed.

  What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering.
  • Typically, 8-12+ years of progressive experience in mechanical engineering and building systems design.
  • Professional Engineering License (PE) required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading mechanical design efforts on building systems projects.
  • Strong understanding of HVAC, plumbing, hydronic, ventilation, and related building systems.
  • Ability to coordinate multiple project priorities and communicate effectively with clients, consultants, and internal team members.
  • Proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, and Microsoft Office Suite; familiarity with related HVAC analysis tools is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and design best practices in a multi-disciplinary environment.

 Nice to Haves

  • Familiarity with energy analysis, system optimization, and sustainable design.
  • Prior construction administration and field coordination experience.
  • Experience mentoring staff and contributing to project leadership or business development support.
