The role
As Junior Legal Counsel for Fastned in the Netherlands, you will support the legal team in managing Fastned's compliance and corporate affairs. This is a broad, generalist function with a particular focus on compliance topics, most notably GDPR/privacy and our general internal policies, combined with day-to-day corporate housekeeping tasks. Over time, the role offers the opportunity to grow into a wide range of legal areas, from contract review to consumer law, regulatory matters and more corporate-related topics.
We enjoy working with a self-motivated, proactive, entrepreneurial and mission-driven individual. Working as Fastned's Junior Legal Counsel is a great opportunity to start your in-house career at a rapidly growing, highly diversified and dynamic scale-up while being able to make a significant impact from day one.
You will be part of a growing European legal team with colleagues based in Amsterdam, Paris, Cologne, Ghent and London. As Junior Legal Counsel you will be based in our Amsterdam HQ and report to the Lead Legal NL, working productively and collaboratively with all your colleagues within Fastned.
What you will do
Taking ownership of key compliance topics, with a particular focus on GDPR and privacy matters: maintaining and updating the Register of Processing Activities, reviewing Data Processing Agreements (DPAs), advising the business on privacy-by-design principles, conducting privacy assessments (LIAs and DPIAs), handling data subject requests, and supporting Third Party Risk assessments.
Maintaining, updating and rolling out Fastned's internal policies, while supporting awareness and training initiatives across the organisation.
Handling corporate housekeeping tasks, including preparing board and shareholder resolutions, powers of attorney, KvK filings and UBO registrations, maintaining corporate registers, and supporting signing and notarial processes.
Acting as a generalist legal counsel in support of the Dutch and wider European team: reviewing, drafting and negotiating a broad range of commercial contracts, including NDAs, services agreements, procurement agreements, and general terms and conditions.
Driving the optimisation and standardisation of legal processes, including the development of templates and playbooks, contract management, and DocuSign workflows.
Monitoring legislative and regulatory developments and providing timely input into relevant internal processes.
Our requirements
We are looking for a colleague with an entrepreneurial mindset and good communication skills. Someone who is a team player and an actual nice person with whom it is fun to work. You are comfortable working with digital tools and have a natural curiosity for technology and AI, and how these can make (legal) work smarter and more efficient. Because this is a junior, generalist role, we expect you to be proactive and drive projects forward.
Because we are looking for an all-round junior legal counsel, we understand that you will still have a lot to learn. Therefore, it is desirable for you to be a quick and flexible learner who is intellectually curious, open-minded, adaptable, comfortable with ambiguity, and excited by dynamic change. To make this happen, we are looking for the following:
A Master's degree (LLM) in Dutch law (preferably with a focus on commercial, corporate and/or privacy law), or the equivalent in experience.
At least 1 year of relevant legal counsel experience at a law firm and/or in-house legal environment together with experience, which may have been gained through a traineeship, paralegal role, or a substantive legal student position at a law firm and/or in-house legal team environment (maximum 3 years of total relevant experience).
Affinity with compliance topics, corporate law and basic understanding of corporate housekeeping.
Fluency in English and Dutch (written and spoken).
