A well-established credit union is seeking an experienced mortgage lending leader to serve as Vice President of Real Estate Lending.

This position will provide strategic leadership for the Real Estate Lending Department and will be responsible for driving mortgage production, profitability, operational performance, regulatory compliance, and long-term portfolio growth.

The ideal candidate will bring strong mortgage lending expertise, knowledge of the secondary market, and the ability to build relationships with real estate professionals, builders, community partners, members, and internal leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead Mortgage Strategy and Performance

  • Develop and execute the credit union’s real estate lending strategy, including production goals, portfolio profitability, secondary market activity, and long-term growth initiatives.
  • Monitor performance, identify trends and opportunities, and regularly provide results and recommendations to executive leadership.
  • Oversee Products, Operations, and Compliance
  • Evaluate existing mortgage products, processes, and procedures and implement improvements as needed.
  • Ensure all real estate lending activities comply with federal and state mortgage regulations, internal policies, procedures, and risk management standards.

Drive Business Development

  • Develop and execute strategies to increase mortgage loan volume and strengthen the credit union’s presence in the market.
  • Build and maintain relationships with real estate agents, builders, community organizations, and other referral partners.
  • Serve as the credit union’s primary representative for real estate lending in the community.
  • Provide Underwriting Support
  • Serve as the secondary mortgage underwriter and provide underwriting support during periods of increased loan volume, employee absences, or other high-demand situations.

Lead and Develop the Team

  • Develop and maintain a highly qualified mortgage lending team with strong knowledge of the credit union’s products, rates, and the broader mortgage industry.
  • Provide timely coaching, feedback, and performance management while ensuring departmental goals and service expectations are consistently met.

Performance Expectations

The Vice President of Real Estate Lending will be expected to:

  • Deliver professional, timely, and personalized service to members and internal associates
  • Ensure messages and correspondence are addressed within two hours
  • Maintain a knowledgeable and well-trained mortgage lending team
  • Ensure all lending activity complies with applicable policies, procedures, laws, and regulations
  • Keep executive leadership informed of key operational issues, risks, trends, and opportunities
  • Provide timely employee feedback and complete performance reviews within established timeframes
  • Eight to ten years of similar or related mortgage lending experience
  • Previous leadership or management experience within mortgage lending, real estate lending, or financial services
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry-recognized education or certifications
  • Strong knowledge of first and second residential mortgage lending
  • Experience with the secondary mortgage market
  • Working knowledge of federal and state mortgage lending regulations
  • Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with professionalism, diplomacy, discretion, and tact
