DevOps Engineer

Main tasks

• Design, provision and maintain cloud infrastructure using Terraform.
• Automate system configuration, deployments and recurring operational tasks using Ansible.
• Operate and support AWS-based services in production, including backup and recovery processes.
• Administer, maintain and troubleshoot Linux servers, particularly services hosted in the on-premises data center environment.
• Technically operate and administer a self-hosted GitLab environment, including platform maintenance, upgrades, integrations, availability and troubleshooting.
• Monitor infrastructure and services, investigate incidents and contribute to root-cause analysis and permanent remediation.
• Maintain operational documentation, runbooks and technical standards.
• Collaborate with development, security and infrastructure teams to improve automation, reliability and service delivery.
• Participate in planned maintenance, upgrade activities and operational improvement initiatives.
• Where applicable, support the technical operation of the Atlassian Data Center toolchain.

Requirements

• Professional experience in a DevOps, Cloud Operations, Platform Engineering, Infrastructure Engineering or Linux Systems Engineering role.
• Strong practical experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code practices.
• Strong practical experience with Ansible for configuration management and automation.
• Hands-on experience operating services on AWS.
• Solid Linux systems administration experience, including troubleshooting and operational support in production environments.
• Experience administering or operating self-hosted GitLab from an infrastructure/platform perspective, rather than only as an end user.
• Familiarity with Git, GitLab CI/CD concepts and operational best practices for source-control platforms.
• Experience working in production environments with availability, security, backup and incident-management requirements.
• Professional English communication skills at B2 level minimum; C1 or above is strongly preferred.

Nice to have

• Practical experience operating Atlassian Data Center products, such as Jira, Confluence and Bitbucket.
• Experience with AWS Backup, backup policies, recovery procedures and disaster-recovery concepts.
• Exposure to Azure and/or Google Cloud Platform.
• Experience with hybrid cloud and on-premises data center environments.
• Knowledge of monitoring, logging, alerting and observability tooling.
• German language skills.

Other requirements

• Willingness to work shifts to ensure team coverage between 06:00 and 20:00 Berlin time.
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation for operational support.
• On-call duty is expected to be approximately one week per quarter, with a maximum of two weeks per quarter.
• During the on-call period, availability is required from 18:00 to 08:00 Berlin time on working days.
• On German public holidays and weekends, on-call coverage may be required for a full 24-hour period (08:00-08:00).
