Det-Tronics is a global technology leader in industrial life safety, delivering advanced flame and gas detection, automation control and hazard mitigation solutions that help save lives, protect valuable assets and safeguard critical operations. With more than 50 years of experience, we serve mission-critical environments across offshore and onshore energy, gas turbines, clean energy, and industrial and defense markets. Our engineering expertise, rigorously tested products and global service capabilities help customers address complex safety challenges in some of the world’s most demanding environments. At Det-Tronics, our work has a clear purpose: advancing life safety technology to protect people, preserve assets and support reliable operations around the world.
The Opportunity
The Principal Electrical Engineer leads and manages hardware aspects of products throughout their entire lifecycle from architecture, planning, design through verification and validation. Provides electrical-design technical leadership for teams in cross-functional new product development and sustaining engineering projects. Hardware design development is for products based on different complex sensing technologies (e.g. Optical, Electrochemical) and communication technologies (wired and wireless).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead hardware strategic planning, concept generation, architecture definition and translation to system/subsystem/component definitions, with a focus on reliability, safety, and sustainability.
- Provide technical leadership to other electrical engineering and project team members.
- Expertise in electrical circuit design methodologies that meet high levels of EMC performance.
- Develop and write sub-system engineering requirements and rationales that align with customer and system requirements and regulatory standards.
- Work closely with Embedded Firmware Engineers to develop and execute strategies for Hardware/Firmware integration and diagnostic coverage.
- Develop & implement new or updated electronic designs that meet or exceed all customer, marketing, and regulatory requirements.
- Assess the impact of making changes to existing product electrical components, subcircuits, PCBs, and PCBAs.
- Author and lead through to implementation engineering change requests, and engineering & manufacturing change orders.
- Complete computer assisted design (CAD) modeling & simulation, risk analyses (e.g. DFMEA), subsystem requirements capture, schematic capture, board layouts and board mechanical fit analyses of designs.
- Develop or support development of test cases and traceability from requirements.
- Build and test designs from bench-level to formal verification and validation level using in-house test setups or at 3rd party test facilities.
- Support product quality investigations and root cause analyses.
- Follow development processes, lead & document technical reviews, and properly document, test, and control work deliverables.
- Provide work breakdown plans and task estimates in support of project estimates and management.
- Use Agile methodology for hardware development with clear communication to project stakeholders with metrics to track and report progress.
- Identify project risks and provide practical proposals to close gaps and mitigate risks.
- Participate in roadmap and resource planning.
- Support multiple product development programs at a given time.
- Other duties as assigned.
