Senior Fullstack Engineer, Developer Experience

The Role

We are looking for a Senior Full-Stack Engineer to improve how developers build with Flutterwave. You will work across the developer portal, API gateway, SDKs, documentation, and sandbox environment. You will turn complex payment capabilities into clear, reliable tools that are easy to integrate and support. This role requires strong product judgment, sound API design, and the ability to deliver high-quality experiences across frontend and backend systems.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Build and maintain developer-facing web applications and backend services, including the developer portal, API gateway, and sandbox environment.
• Design consistent API and integration flows with clear contracts, versioning, authentication, and error messages.
• Build, maintain, and release SDKs for languages such as Node.js, Go, Python, PHP, and Java.
• Create interactive documentation, code samples, and integration guides with Product and Technical Writing teams.
• Improve the full developer journey, from account setup and testing to production launch and ongoing support.
• Monitor and improve API performance, availability, security, and ease of use.
• Write automated tests and improve release processes so developer tools can be shipped safely and often.
• Use product data, support feedback, and developer research to identify and remove integration friction.

Required competency and skillset to be a waver:

• At least five years of professional full-stack software engineering experience.
• Strong experience with modern frontend development using JavaScript or TypeScript and a framework such as React or Vue.
• Strong backend development experience in one or more languages such as Node.js, Go, Java, Python, or PHP.
• A solid understanding of REST APIs, authentication, API gateways, versioning, and error handling.
• Experience building SDKs, libraries, developer portals, or other developer-facing products.
• Working knowledge of databases, distributed systems, testing, observability, and continuous delivery.
• Clear technical writing and communication skills, with the ability to explain complex systems simply.
• A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
