FreeAgent is an Edinburgh company founded in 2007 that makes accounting software for freelancers and small businesses. Its product handles invoicing, expenses, payroll and self assessment tax returns with direct filing to the tax authority. The company was acquired by NatWest Group and is offered free to many of the bank's business customers.

The role

As a Software Trainer your main purpose is to help reduce the friction often associated with large-scale software adoption. You won’t just be demonstrating software; you will have a dual pre-sales technical and post-sales implementation focus, acting as a trusted consultant who helps complex, large-scale organisations understand how FreeAgent can transform their workflows.

Pre-sales, working side-by-side with our sales executives, you will act as the trusted technical specialist. You will support with solution scoping, workflow design, and tailor product demonstrations to win large-scale practice opportunities and enterprise deals.

During implementation you’ll have the oversight required to ensure those firms move seamlessly from "prospect" to "onboarded” and continue on their way to becoming happy and successful long-standing customers. You will project manage the end-to-end practice onboarding experience, design standard operating procedures (SOPs), deliver high-impact staff training, and oversee large-scale client migrations to FreeAgent.

This is a pivotal role bringing Sales, Account Management and Product Engineering together to nurture seamless software adoption by our large/ national Practice Partners, enabling long-term partner success.

Day to day your role will involve:

Pre-Sales & Technical Scoping

  • Technical Discovery & Solution Design: Partner with sales team to conduct deep-dive operational discovery, mapping out a practice’s current software ecosystem, workflow hurdles, and mapping FreeAgent capabilities to their specific operational needs.
  • Tailored Product Demonstrations: Deliver compelling, solution-led product demonstrations to senior practice partners, IT directors, and heads of department to articulate FreeAgent’s technical and commercial value.
  • Objection Handling & Scoping: Overcome complex technical, security or operational objections during the sales cycle, providing definitive guidance on integrations, data flows, and workflow feasibility.

Post-Sales Onboarding & Practice Integration

  • Practice Workflow Architecture: Design and embed standardised "FreeAgent in-practice" operational processes, helping firms with their workflow, compliance routines, and client management practices.
  • Implementation Project Management: Manage the end-to-end onboarding lifecycle for large practices, maintaining project plans, managing risks, setting milestones, and keeping key internal/external stakeholders aligned through to go-live.
  • Client Migration Strategy: Guide practice teams through bulk data migration activities-defining data extraction templates, validation routines, reconciliation standards, and sign-off procedures to move clients smoothly onto FreeAgent.

Training & Capability Building

  • Structured Onboarding & Upskilling: Design and deliver tailored training sessions (workshops, webinars) for practice staff, bookkeepers, and client managers to build confidence and self-sufficiency.
  • Best-Practice Toolkits: Build repeatable onboarding frameworks, migration playbooks, and training assets to accelerate time-to-value for newly signed practices.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Product Advocacy

  • Internal Voice of the Practice: Capture recurring technical requirements, migration bottlenecks, and product enhancements from large and national accounting firms, delivering structured feedback to the sales, Product and Engineering teams.
  • Continuous improvement: Providing regular updates on wins and lessons learned to both the Implementation and wider sales teams to facilitate knowledge sharing, process improvements and continuous upskilling.
