Role: Project Engineer - Control Systems & Electrical Design

Location: Plymouth / South West

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Project Engineer to join our Lintott Control Systems team.

This is a varied and hands-on engineering role for someone who enjoys contributing throughout the full project lifecycle. Working within our control panel and systems integration business, you will support the successful delivery of projects from initial concept and tender stage through design, manufacture, testing, commissioning and final handover.

You'll work closely with customers, Project Managers, Software Engineers, manufacturing teams, suppliers and site teams to develop practical, compliant and cost-effective solutions.

We're looking for someone with experience in electrical engineering and control systems who can combine technical expertise with project delivery and tendering support. If you have experience in some, but not all, of the areas listed below, we'd still encourage you to apply.

What you'll be doing:

  • Managing multiple projects from order through to completion, ensuring delivery is safe, efficient and aligned with programme and budget requirements.
  • Reviewing client specifications, technical requirements and scope documents to develop appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Producing electrical designs for MCCs, control panels, LV distribution systems and industrial control systems, including schematics, general arrangement drawings, cable schedules and bills of materials.
  • Selecting and specifying electrical and automation equipment, including switchgear, motor control equipment, drives, PLC hardware and instrumentation.
  • Supporting client design reviews, technical meetings, project progress meetings and site surveys.
  • Working closely with manufacturing teams during panel build activities and resolving technical queries.
  • Supporting Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning activities.
  • Coordinating suppliers, subcontractors, installation teams and internal stakeholders throughout project delivery.
  • Procuring materials, equipment and specialist services as required.
  • Maintaining project documentation, technical submissions, test records and handover information.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve value while maintaining safety, quality and compliance.
  • Building and maintaining positive customer relationships throughout the project lifecycle.

Tendering & Pre-Contract Support

You will also support the business during tendering activities and help develop future opportunities by:

  • Reviewing enquiries, specifications, drawings and client requirements.
  • Developing technical solutions and defining proposed scopes of work.
  • Preparing preliminary designs, equipment selections and cost estimates.
  • Producing bills of materials and obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations.
  • Identifying technical and commercial risks, assumptions and exclusions.
  • Supporting tender reviews and smooth handover into project delivery.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to develop competitive and cost-effective solutions.
  • Applying lessons learned from completed projects to improve future estimates and designs.

About you:

You will have one of the following:

  • An HNC/ONC in Electrical, Systems or Software Engineering, together with relevant industry experience.
  • A degree in Electrical, Systems or a related Engineering discipline, together with post-graduate industry experience.

We're particularly interested in hearing from people with experience in some of the following areas:

  • Electrical engineering within industrial, manufacturing, utilities or systems integration environments.
  • MCC, control panel and LV electrical system design.
  • Motor control systems, including starters and variable speed drives.
  • Production of electrical schematics, general arrangement drawings and bills of materials.
  • AutoCAD Electrical or similar CAD software.
  • Electrical equipment specification and component selection.
  • Project engineering and the delivery of multiple concurrent projects.
  • Working collaboratively with customers, suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Factory Acceptance Testing, commissioning or installation support.
  • Cost estimating, tendering or quotation preparation.
  • Commercial awareness and project cost management.
  • Collaboration with PLC, HMI and SCADA engineers.
  • Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Word.

Desirable:

  • CAD software qualifications or additional training.
  • Professional registration, or working towards registration, with a recognised engineering institution.
  • Experience within the water or wastewater sector.
  • Industrial automation experience.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication networks such as Profibus, Profinet and Ethernet.
  • Experience leading project teams and managing external stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, standards and safety requirements, including CDM, PUWER, DSEAR and CE/UKCA marking.
