GE Vernova is an American energy company created in April 2024 when General Electric split into three, taking the power, wind and electrification businesses. It builds and services gas turbines that generate a substantial share of the world's electricity, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid equipment including transformers and high-voltage transmission, and nuclear technology through GE Hitachi and its BWRX-300 small modular reactor. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company sits at the centre of two simultaneous demand shocks: the electrification of transport and industry, and the electricity requirements of large-scale artificial intelligence data centres.

Job Description Summary

Posting:

GE Vernova is accelerating the path to more reliable, affordable, and sustainable energy while helping customers power economies and deliver electricity that is vital to health, safety, security, and improved quality of life. Are you excited by the opportunity to electrify and decarbonize the world?

Summary:

As an Aerodynamics Engineer in the Aero, Thermal & Clearances Design (ATCD) team you will execute aerodynamic design and analysis activities for turbomachinery hardware and architectures within our gas power portfolio, with a focus on aerodynamics in support of the full product life cycle, including New Product Introduction (NPI), New Technology Introduction (NTI), test & validation, and fielded product support. This role requires demonstrated technical understanding of steady and unsteady aerodynamics, analytical judgment, and the ability to work from concept through design review and final documentation under technical leader guidance. The successful candidate will work closely with cross-functional global teams to deliver timely, accurate, and high-quality outcomes.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform aerodynamic analysis and design activities for flange-to-flange stationary and rotating components across turbomachinery products, applying sound engineering principles and adhering to business standards, design practices, procedures, and product requirements.
  • Contribute to the development, update, and continuous improvement of 1D, 2D, and 3D aerodynamic analysis methods and design approaches to meet product performance, operability, and reliability requirements.
  • Support design and analysis work across conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases for NPI, NTI, research, and product support programs, while developing increased autonomy and ownership under the guidance of a technical leader.
  • Build, assess, and improve aerodynamic analysis models; interpret results; and prepare design review materials with clear conclusions, technical rationale, and actionable recommendations.
  • Apply sound engineering judgment to evaluate design trade-offs, identify risks, and propose solutions beyond established methods and parameters when appropriate.
  • Contribute to root cause analysis, field issue resolution, and design improvement initiatives related to aerodynamic performance and operability.
  • Collaborate effectively with global cross-functional teams, including mechanical, thermal, performance, heat transfer, and clearance engineering teams, throughout the design process to deliver integrated, high-quality design solutions.
  • Demonstrate innovation in aerodynamic design practices and analysis methodologies, including opportunities to improve productivity, design quality, and technical rigor through digital tools, scripting, and process improvements.
  • Apply Lean principles in daily execution, improve standard work, and contribute to engineering templates, best practices, and process improvements that reduce rework and improve quality.
  • Document technical data, analysis outputs, assumptions, and conclusions in accordance with engineering design templates and established design practices. Ensure complete, accurate, and traceable documentation and model management for assigned projects.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related Engineering / Science discipline from an accredited college or university
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in aerodynamic analysis and design for turbomachinery, or comparable.

Eligibility Requirements

  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Masters in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with specialization in Aerodynamics, Thermal Science, Thermal and Fluid Engineering, or a related field, with a strong academic record.
  • Demonstrated experience in steady and/or unsteady aerodynamic analysis and design of turbomachinery components.
  • Experience with engineering tools such as CFX, ICEM CFD, Fluent, ANSYS, or equivalent analysis platforms.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project execution skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly communicate technical conclusions and recommendations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a global matrix organization with a positive “can do” attitude
  • Strong customer and product mindset, with a focus on quality, operability, and timely execution.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming or scripting languages such as Python, Fortran, or Visual Basic for engineering automation and analysis efficiency.
  • Demonstrated quality focus with lean, probabilistic and data driven approach to problem solving
  • Demonstrated mindset of ownership and accountability to achieve goals.
  • Demonstrated learning and practicing of AI/ML tools and methods to improve design system

    Note:

To comply with US immigration and other legal requirements, it is necessary to specify the minimum number of years' experience required for any role based within the USA. For roles outside of the USA, to ensure compliance with applicable legislation, the JDs should focus on the substantive level of experience required for the role and a minimum number of years should NOT be used.
