GE Vernova is an American energy company created in April 2024 when General Electric split into three, taking the power, wind and electrification businesses. It builds and services gas turbines that generate a substantial share of the world's electricity, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid equipment including transformers and high-voltage transmission, and nuclear technology through GE Hitachi and its BWRX-300 small modular reactor. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company sits at the centre of two simultaneous demand shocks: the electrification of transport and industry, and the electricity requirements of large-scale artificial intelligence data centres.

Stafford, United Kingdom

Do you want to lead the execution of one of GE Vernova’s most strategically important UK transmission portfolios?

GE Vernova is looking for an exceptional Portfolio Execution Director - National Grid Account to join our Grid Solutions team based in Stafford, United Kingdom.

This is a senior leadership opportunity to shape how we execute a portfolio of complex energy infrastructure projects supporting National Grid and the transformation of the UK transmission network.

You will bring together project delivery, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, commercial and functional teams to strengthen execution across the portfolio, remove delivery barriers and ensure our commitments to the customer are delivered successfully.

Our Electrification businesses provide products, services and advanced technologies that help modernize grids, enable renewable integration and strengthen energy systems.

From grid infrastructure and power conversion to software and storage solutions, we are helping build smarter, more resilient electricity networks around the world.

--------------------------------------------

Let’s Talk About the Role

As Portfolio Execution Director, you will act as the senior execution lead for GE Vernova’s National Grid portfolio.

Rather than focusing on the delivery of one individual project, you will take a broader view across the portfolio - creating alignment between project teams and functional leaders, strengthening governance, identifying common risks and dependencies, and ensuring the organisation has the capability and capacity required to deliver.

Working within a complex matrix organisation, you will provide senior-level oversight of portfolio performance and act as a key escalation point for significant execution challenges.

You will also build trusted relationships with National Grid stakeholders, helping ensure our delivery strategy, ways of working and organisational capability continue to meet customer expectations.

--------------------------------------------

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Set and lead the execution strategy across the National Grid portfolio, promoting consistent and effective delivery across multiple complex infrastructure projects.

  • Build trusted senior relationships with National Grid stakeholders and act as a key point of escalation for portfolio-level delivery matters.

  • Drive portfolio governance, ensuring clear visibility of project performance, risks, dependencies, resource requirements and critical delivery priorities.

  • Align cross-functional teams across project management, engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, commercial and other key functions.

  • Identify and remove systemic delivery barriers, including resource constraints, duplicated activity, competing priorities and cross-project dependencies.

  • Strengthen execution capability by identifying best practice, improving project methodologies and creating greater consistency across the portfolio.

  • Challenge and support project leadership teams where plans, assumptions, risks or recovery strategies require senior intervention.

  • Develop portfolio-level approaches to engineering, construction, commissioning, suppliers, contractors and resource capacity.

  • Create greater organisational synergy, enabling teams to reuse capability, share learning and improve the way we manage common suppliers and delivery challenges.

  • Promote continuous improvement, using lessons learned and portfolio insight to strengthen future project execution.

--------------------------------------------

Skills for Success

You will be a collaborative and commercially aware leader who is comfortable operating across complex organisations, influencing senior stakeholders and bringing together multiple teams around a common delivery strategy.

You are likely to bring significant leadership experience across complex energy, transmission, EPC or major infrastructure programmes, together with:

  • Experience leading portfolios, programmes or multiple major projects within a complex engineering or infrastructure environment.

  • Strong knowledge of high-voltage transmission, power infrastructure or comparable large-scale EPC projects.

  • Experience across the project lifecycle, including engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.

  • Strong customer-facing leadership experience, including managing senior stakeholder relationships and complex project or programme escalations.

  • The ability to influence cross-functional teams and senior stakeholders without relying solely on direct line authority.

  • Experience identifying and managing portfolio-level risks, dependencies, resource constraints and opportunities for operational improvement.

  • Strong technical and commercial understanding, with the ability to translate complex customer and project requirements into effective execution strategies.

  • Experience working with major contractors, suppliers and multidisciplinary delivery organisations.

Familiarity with National Grid projects, standards, safety requirements or ways of working would be highly advantageous, including exposure to areas such as National Grid Safety Rules and Contractor Design and Engineering processes.

A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical, engineering or management discipline would be advantageous, but we are most interested in your overall experience, leadership capability and professional achievements.

--------------------------------------------

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to influence how GE Vernova executes a strategically important portfolio of UK energy infrastructure projects at scale.

You will have the opportunity to shape delivery strategy, strengthen the way different projects and functions work together, build trusted senior customer relationships and create greater consistency across complex programmes.

Where and How You’ll Work

This is a permanent position based from our Stafford office in the United Kingdom.

The role will involve engagement with project teams, customer stakeholders and delivery organisations across the National Grid portfolio.
