GE Vernova is an American energy company created in April 2024 when General Electric split into three, taking the power, wind and electrification businesses. It builds and services gas turbines that generate a substantial share of the world's electricity, onshore and offshore wind turbines, grid equipment including transformers and high-voltage transmission, and nuclear technology through GE Hitachi and its BWRX-300 small modular reactor. Headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, the company sits at the centre of two simultaneous demand shocks: the electrification of transport and industry, and the electricity requirements of large-scale artificial intelligence data centres.

Job Description Summary

The Pre-Service / In-Service Inspection (PSI/ISI) Program Owner - BWRX-300 is responsible for establishing and governing the inspection and integrity requirements for BWRX-300 nuclear pressure equipment, piping, welded components, and related systems from design through construction and into operation across our U.S., Canadian, and European projects.

In the current BWRX-300 new-build phase, this role is heavily focused on the front-end definition of all component, weld, and system inspection requirements needed to fulfill the Designer’s obligations under nuclear and pressure-boundary codes, standards, and regulatory frameworks. The Program Owner ensures that these requirements are embedded in design deliverables, specifications, procurement packages, modular fabrication and construction plans, and that they form the basis of the plant’s pre-service and in-service inspection programs.

This role is a key interface with internal design teams, BWRX-300 technology providers, EPCs/suppliers, Authorized Nuclear Inspectors, Notified Bodies, and nuclear/pressure equipment regulators.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities:

Strategy & Compliance Leadership

  • Define the global PSI/ISI strategy, ensuring alignment with major nuclear standards (ASME Section III/XI, CSA N285, PED/EN).
  • Translate complex regulatory obligations into actionable, auditable inspection requirements for all nuclear and non-safety pressure boundaries.
  • Serve as the technical authority for compliance, supporting licensing submittals and engaging with Authorized Inspection Agencies and regulators.

Design Integration & Constructability

  • Partner with design and systems engineering teams to ensure "inspectability by design."
  • Influence modular assembly, piping layout, and access strategies to ensure all welds and components remain accessible for both manufacturing and long-term inspection.
  • Define the criteria for weld inspections, hold points, and acceptance standards throughout the modular lifecycle.

Procurement & Supply Chain Quality

  • Embed stringent quality and inspection requirements into RFQs, contracts, and supplier manufacturing plans.
  • Review vendor documentation, including Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), material traceability, and Manufacturing Data Records (MDRs).

Operational Transition & Reliability

  • Establish the framework for the transition from construction to operations, ensuring a robust handover of baseline data for future asset integrity and In-Service Inspection (ISI).
  • Champion a culture of nuclear safety, configuration control, and data traceability across all project phases.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Materials/Welding Engineering, or related field required.
  • At least 8 years of experience in nuclear engineering, nuclear pressure boundary design, integrity, or inspection programs within an EPC, OEM, BWRX-300 developer, or utility environment.
  • At least 4 years of experience defining or managing pre-service and in-service inspection requirements for nuclear-class components (ASME Section III/XI, CSA N285, or equivalent).

Desired Characteristics:

  • Experience on BWRX-300 or advanced reactor projects, or new-build nuclear projects with strong modular construction elements, is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with nuclear regulators, Authorized Nuclear Inspectors, Notified Bodies, and/or national pressure equipment authorities in at least one of the target regions (U.S., Canada, Europe); multi-jurisdictional experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of nuclear and pressure equipment standards and regulations, such as:
    • ASME BPVC Section III and XI, ASME B31.1/B31.7
    • CSA N285 series and relevant CNSC requirements
    • PED and applicable EN standards, plus national nuclear regulations in host countries
  • Understanding of:
    • Nuclear QA/QC and configuration management (e.g., 10 CFR 50 Appendix B or equivalent) and their application to BWRX-300.
    • Welding and materials for nuclear pressure boundaries, including BWRX-300-relevant alloys and fabrication processes.
    • NDE methods, including advanced techniques and qualifications for limited-access BWRX-300 geometries.
    • Risk-informed ISI, aging management, and fitness-for-service in a nuclear context.
  • Familiarity with engineering design tools, document management, and (ideally) asset integrity/ISI management software.
  • Strong ownership mindset and ability to build a program from the design phase in a highly regulated and evolving BWRX-300 environment.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills; able to translate complex code, regulatory, and BWRX-300-specific requirements into practical specifications and procedures.
  • Proven ability to work across functions, organizations, and geographies, including external SMR vendors, EPCs, OEMs, and regulators.
  • Structured, detail-oriented, and comfortable with formal nuclear QA and configuration control processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a risk-informed decision-making approach.
