ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Drafter - Electrical Engineering to join our team supporting the Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) at their Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory site! This position is full-time and will be based out of West Mifflin, PA.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, review, and update electrical schematics, engineering drawings, and technical documentation in support of the Propulsion Plant Team Trainer (PPTT) project.

  • Create detailed component and assembly drawings from conceptual layouts, sketches, and engineering requirements.

  • Utilize 2D and 3D CAD software to produce accurate drawings of electrical equipment, components, and systems.

  • Ensure drawings and design documentation comply with established engineering and drafting standards.

  • Prepare and maintain bills/lists of materials (BOMs) and other supporting design documentation.

  • Translate verbal and written engineering direction into accurate technical drawings and design packages.

  • Collaborate with engineers, designers, product developers, and other technical personnel throughout the design and development process.

  • Review existing drawings and documentation and incorporate engineering changes and design updates as required.

  • Conduct independent research to support design and drafting activities and resolve technical questions.

  • Develop working knowledge of assigned equipment and systems by consulting with engineers, product developers, and other subject matter experts.

  • Apply current CAD, drafting, and design technologies to improve the accuracy and efficiency of engineering deliverables.

  • Support the design, production, testing, and delivery of advanced naval nuclear propulsion training simulators across a multi-site project team.

Requirements

  • Education & Years of Experience - Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university in a Design and Drafting Technology or related electrical design and 2+ years of relevant experience OR Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a Design and Drafting Technology or related electrical design and 3+ years of relevant experience.

  • Citizenship - To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.

  • Clearance - To be considered, you MUST an active DOE "L" Clearance or DOD "Secret" clearance.

  • Experience with 2d/3D CAD software.

Desired Skills

  • Proficiency in electrical engineering drafting and preparation of technical drawings and schematics.

  • Strong knowledge of electrical drafting standards, practices, and techniques.

  • Experience developing and/or reviewing electrical engineering designs based on approved technical requirements and specifications.

  • Proficiency with CAD and engineering design software, including SolidWorks, SolidWorks Electrical, and/or AutoCAD.

  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and associated control systems.

  • Experience with low-voltage electrical distribution systems.

  • Familiarity with audiovisual (AV) and/or telecommunications systems.

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and other technical documentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering and technical teams.

  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to coordinate with engineers, designers, and other project stakeholders.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

About the Site

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is comprised of the Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, located in West Mifflin, Pennsylvania, the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory located in Niskayuna, New York, the Kesselring Site, located in West Milton, New York, and the Naval Reactor Facility located in Idaho Falls, Idaho. Together, they develop advanced technology for the United States Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program, ensure the safety and reliability of naval nuclear reactors, and train Sailors who operate reactors in submarines and aircraft carrier fleets (energy.gov).
