The Opportunity

We are in search of a Head of DevOps to take charge of the platforms, infrastructure, and delivery pipelines that enable us to securely and reliably deliver software to our clients - from initial development stages to the live production systems we manage on their behalf.

This is a senior leadership position with a global scope that oversees our DevOps teams across different regions. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice President of Engineering, you will establish and lead the function, set the benchmark for every engineering team, and be responsible for the dependability, security, and cost efficiency of a sizable, multi-region cloud infrastructure.

While maintaining technical proficiency to provide credible architect reviews and make sound decisions, this role primarily focuses on leadership - aiming to maximize team output rather than individually coding.

Some travel is required for this role, including occasional visits to the broader team in Bangalore, but no prolonged stays away from home are anticipated.

What You'll Be Doing

• Developing and evolving the DevOps strategy and translating it into a roadmap that guides business planning
• Managing the shared cloud infrastructure, tooling, and delivery pipelines utilized by all engineering teams
• Establishing and supervising a DevOps function spanning multiple regions to enforce consistent standards across all regions
• Ensuring our infrastructure meets security and compliance expectations set by clients and regulators, and providing evidence of compliance (e.g. SOC 2)
• Offering the business transparent and reliable insights into infrastructure costs, segmented by client and project
• Creating a self-service platform so that engineering teams can independently provision, build, and ship without waiting on DevOps
• Leading and nurturing your team, including recruitment as the function expands
• Handling incident responses and post-incident evaluations for issues affecting shared infrastructure, working closely with Support who manage daily operations

What We Offer

• Competitive annual salary ranging from £122,000 to £135,000, depending on experience

What We're Looking For

• Senior leadership background running a DevOps or platform function, ideally across multiple teams or regions
• Demonstrated experience managing engineers with full accountability for their performance and progression
• Sound technical acumen - capable of evaluating the appropriateness of your team's work and proactively addressing any concerns
• Extensive hands-on experience constructing and overseeing large-scale production systems on a major cloud platform (AWS and/or GCP) covering networking, IAM, compute, managed Kubernetes, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code at scale
• Previous involvement in managing a cloud infrastructure subject to external audits (e.g. SOC 2) while ensuring accurate cost visibility for the business
• Proficient communication skills - adept at elucidating architectural decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Familiarity with containerization and Kubernetes, to a level where you can meaningfully assess your team's architectural choices

Nice to Have

• Prior experience leading a DevOps or platform function across multiple countries or regions
• Background in a client-oriented or regulated services environment
• Certifications such as AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or AWS Certified Solutions Architect
