Who you are:

The Field Hardware Technician supports Geotab’s Video Tiger Team by delivering rapid, hands-on technical support for enterprise customers and pilot sites. This role installs, configures, tests, and troubleshoots camera and telematics hardware, including power connections, harnesses, mounting, calibration, connectivity, as well as creating and collecting material for training of Geotabs AI models. 

What you'll do:

The technician supports pilots from pre-installation preparation through completion, documents field findings, and helps generate controlled training data for new computer vision behaviors when customer footage is unavailable. This role requires strong practical problem-solving skills, attention to detail, safe vehicle operation, and a willingness to travel frequently to customer and test sites.

How you'll make an impact:

• Travel to customer, partner, pilot, and test locations to install and troubleshoot Geotab Video hardware.  
• Perform pre-installation checks, vehicle assessments, hardware installation, configuration, calibration, and validation.  
• Diagnose issues involving power, wiring harnesses, mounting, camera positioning, connectivity, SD cards, and related equipment.  
• Own assigned hardware activities throughout the enterprise pilot lifecycle, from preparation through pilot closeout.  
• Work directly with customers, installers, partners, and internal teams to resolve issues quickly and professionally.  
• Capture accurate diagnostic information, document completed work, and communicate findings and next steps.  
• Escalate complex or recurring issues with clear technical details and supporting evidence.  
• Maintain readiness of mobile camera kits, tools, spare parts, and other field equipment.  
• Support controlled data-collection activities by installing cameras on representative vehicles and safely staging and recording target driving scenarios.  
• Follow test procedures and data-collection instructions to produce reliable video footage and associated test-case information for the Vision team.  
• Identify recurring installation, hardware, or product issues and share field feedback with engineering, product, and support teams.  
• Follow all applicable health, safety, privacy, security, and customer-site requirements.  
• Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll bring to the role:

• Basic knowledge of vehicle electrical systems, wiring, power connections, or automotive electronics.  
• Ability to use hand tools, diagnostic equipment, test equipment, and installation materials safely.  
• Ability to troubleshoot technical issues systematically and identify likely root causes.  
• Familiarity with vehicle-mounted cameras, telematics devices, GPS equipment, networking, or connected-vehicle technology is an asset.  
• Ability to follow detailed installation, calibration, testing, and data-collection procedures.  
• Strong attention to detail and ability to document technical work accurately.  
• Clear verbal and written communication skills.  
• Ability to work independently in the field while collaborating effectively with customers and internal teams.  
• Comfortable working in changing environments, including vehicle bays, parking lots, customer sites, and outdoor locations.  
• Willingness and ability to travel approximately 70% of the time.  
• Ability to safely handle customer and company equipment and maintain organized field kits.  
• Commitment to workplace safety, data privacy, and professional customer interactions.
• Equivalent combination of education and/or work experience in related field may be substituted
• Post-secondary certificate, diploma, or degree in Automotive Technology, Electrical or Electronics Technology, Mechatronics, Engineering Technology, Computer Systems, or a related field is preferred.
