Geotab is seeking an IT Cloud Operations Engineering Specialist who will support and improve high-transaction, globally distributed cloud infrastructure used to deliver Geotab's SaaS solution. This role will focus on reliable infrastructure operations, automation, security, performance, scalability, and cost efficiency, while using AI-enabled tools to strengthen monitoring and decision-making. What you'll do:
As an IT Cloud Operations Engineering Specialist, your key area of responsibility will be maintaining and enhancing cloud infrastructure through server operations, resource lifecycle management, automation, observability, security, and cost optimization. You will deploy patches and upgrades, provision and scale systems, monitor data flows, investigate operational discrepancies, and participate in an on-call rotation supporting our cloud infrastructure 24/7. You will also develop dashboards, reports, procedures, and automated workflows that improve operational efficiency and service resilience.
You will work closely with Technical Services, Technical Operations, cloud infrastructure, database, security, customer support, and other internal teams. You will collaborate across the organization to resolve incidents, identify root causes, improve processes, and research and recommend AI-driven solutions for monitoring, analysis, automation, governance, and decision-making.
To be successful in this role, you will be a highly organized, analytical, and collaborative self-starter with strong written and verbal communication skills. You will be comfortable working in a flat organization, managing multiple priorities, making well-judged decisions, and engaging with people at all levels. In addition, you will bring strong cloud operations, systems administration, networking, scripting, database, configuration management, security, and automation skills, along with the ability to use AI tools to accelerate troubleshooting, documentation, and operational improvements.
How you'll make an impact:
- Deploy scheduled and emergency patches and upgrades while minimizing service disruption.
- Provision, maintain, configure, and scale cloud servers and systems for performance, scalability, and resilience.
- Monitor high-availability environments, data flows, and operational health using AI-powered observability and predictive analytics.
- Participate in the 24/7 on-call rotation, respond to outages using standard procedures, and implement corrective actions based on root-cause analysis.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and maintain dashboards, reports, procedures, server inventory, and governance controls.
- Monitor cloud costs and identify optimization opportunities using AI-driven analytics, predictive thresholds, and FinOps practices.
What you'll bring to this role:
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with 3-5 years of experience in IT or cloud operations.
- Knowledge of cloud technologies, server and infrastructure management, IP networking, network security, firewalls, and load balancing in cloud environments.
- Experience maintaining applications in Linux and Windows environments and working with cloud-based IaaS, PaaS, and/or SaaS, preferably Google Cloud or AWS.
- Experience with scripting and automation using Bash, PowerShell, Python, Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or similar tools.
- Experience with database administration, query analysis, and performance tuning across technologies such as MS SQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, and BigQuery.
- Experience with continuous integration, log collection and analysis, GitHub or GitLab, AIOps, AI/ML platforms, generative AI tools, and AI-driven security or cost optimization.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, interpersonal, teamwork, organization, and multitasking skills; cloud or IT certifications such as GCP or AWS certifications are preferred.
