Your role:

Working in our Gastown corporate head office, the Dishwasher & Kitchen Porter forms part of our in-house Culinary team who run our employee breakfast and lunch service. This includes dishwashing, food preparation, cafeteria stocking and general cleaning of the employee lounge and office kitchens. We're looking for someone who wants to be in the culinary industry, looking for an opportunity to get started on a kitchen team, and learn how to work closely with a team of chefs.

Your responsibilities:

• Dishwashing and ownership of our plate and cutlery program:
  • Setting up and accessing plates and cutlery
  • Logistics of dirty plates/cutlery to dish area and running through the dishwasher
  • Ensure plates and cutlery are ready for meal service
  • Shutdown of dishwasher and area including machine closing procedures, wipe down, sweeping and mopping.
• Assist with the preparation of menu items
• Continental breakfast setup: arranging and stocking of cereal, fruits, and yogurt
• Help with any last-minute requests from the breakfast team
• Assist the Culinary team with lunch service plating
• Ensuring dish bins are clean, labeled and available for dirty dishes.
• Assist with post-breakfast and lunch service cleanup including seating areas
• Assist with kitchen cleaning and maintenance

About you: 

• You hold a FOODSAFE Level 1
• You might have some prior kitchen experience or culinary training, but this is not required

Things you should know:

• You'll be on your feet most of the day, moving between the dish pit, prep area, and lounge.
• This role has the potential to be hazardous, working with cleaning materials, hot liquids, and sharp objects.
• This can be a fast-paced and high-stress environment. You'll need to meet deadlines daily. 
• This is a Monday to Friday role, working 8-hour days, with potential for varying hours of work when required.
  • Expect to start work at 7:30am most days.
• There are physically demanding aspects to the job. You'll need to lift heavy objects, stand for long periods of time, and walk up and down stairs to access storage and coolers.

Compensation:

Global Relay advertises the pay range for this role in compliance with British Columbia’s pay transparency laws. Individual pay rates are determined by evaluating factors such as expertise, skills, education, and professional background. 

The range below reflects the expected annual base salary, which is only one element of our comprehensive total rewards package designed to reflect our company pay philosophy, culture and values. We aim to foster an inspiring work environment and support employees' work-life rhythms. We provide a comprehensive extended health benefits program, including virtual healthcare and a wellness allowance. Employees also receive annual allotted vacation days, which increase based on tenure. Other benefits include: Paid sick days, maternity/parental enhancement program, bonus, and an RRSP contribution matching program.

British Columbia - Base salary range

$42,000—$47,000 CAD
