Senior Engineering Manager

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead high-performing engineering teams focused on building scalable, high-quality platforms and products. This role is primarily responsible for engineering excellence, architecture alignment, and team leadership, while ensuring predictable delivery and operational efficiency.

You will lead an organization of ~100 engineers across backend, frontend, QA, and DevOps, driving technical strategy, system design, and engineering best practices while maintaining strong alignment with product and business goals. Delivery ownership will be an important aspect of the role, ensuring execution discipline without compromising engineering quality or innovation.

The core responsibilities for the job include the following:

Engineering Leadership and Technical Strategy:

• Own and drive technical vision and engineering strategy across multiple product and platform teams.
• Partner with Architects and Tech Leads to define scalable, cloud-native architectures and ensure adherence to design principles.
• Lead critical system design discussions, trade-off decisions, and technology evaluations.
• Ensure strong focus on non-functional requirements: scalability, performance, reliability, and security.
• Promote adoption of modern engineering practices (microservices, event-driven systems, containerization, etc. ).

Team Leadership and Organizational Development:

• Lead and scale an engineering organization of ~100 members across multiple teams.
• Hire, mentor, and develop Engineering Managers, Tech Leads, and senior engineers.
• Build a culture of ownership, innovation, and engineering excellence.
• Drive career growth frameworks, performance management, and capability building.
• Enable cross-functional collaboration between engineering, product, and design teams.

Delivery and Execution Governance:

• Ensure predictable and high-quality delivery across multiple concurrent programs.
• Establish lightweight but effective execution frameworks (Agile/Scrum/Kanban/Scaled Agile).
• Track and improve key delivery metrics: cycle time, throughput, release frequency, and defect rates.
• Manage risks, dependencies, and escalations across teams.
• Balance speed vs. quality vs. technical debt in delivery decisions.

Engineering Excellence and Quality:

• Drive best practices in CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and release engineering.
• Ensure strong code quality, review standards, and development discipline.
• Champion DevOps culture and SRE principles for high system reliability.
• Lead initiatives for technical debt reduction and platform modernization.

Stakeholder and Product Collaboration:

• Partner with Product Management to translate business goals into technical execution strategies.
• Influence roadmap prioritization with engineering insights and constraints.
• Provide clear, data-driven communication to senior leadership on engineering and delivery health.

Requirements:

• 12+ years in software engineering, with at least 5+ years in engineering leadership roles.
• Proven experience managing large engineering teams (50-100+).
• Strong track record of building and scaling distributed systems or high-traffic platforms.
• Experience in gaming, real-time systems, or high-performance applications is a strong plus.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Technical Expertise:

• Deep understanding of: Distributed systems and microservices architecture, Cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP), CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
• High-availability and low-latency systems.
• Ability to review architecture, challenge designs, and guide technical decisions.
• Hands-on background preferred (coding/design earlier in career).

Leadership and Communication:

• Strong ability to lead through influence and technical credibility.
• Excellent stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
• Proven ability to drive alignment across Engineering, Product, and Business teams.
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving capabilities in ambiguous environments.
