In this role, you will have an opportunity to solve problems independently from design through launch to landing. You will provide direct technical contribution and technical leadership. Faced with a problem, you will scope it, research possible solutions and technologies, and recommend a solution that includes both short-term and long-term needs. You will accelerate your own team, e.g. by developing solutions to common problems. You will become an authority and support other teams, e.g., by answering questions or helping with debugging. You will plan and scope projects for your team. You will prioritize supporting the needs of your direct reports. You will be accountable for both what your team does (impact) and how your team does it (collaboration and technical excellence). You will look for opportunities to use Google's AI/ML to improve your velocity and impact and to make Google's products better. You will proactively spot and suggest areas of future work for self and team.

Responsibilities

• Create and run virtual machines on Google infrastructure. Compute Engine offers scale, performance, and value that allows developers to easily launch large compute clusters on Google's infrastructure.
• Plan and scope projects for your team. Prioritize supporting the needs of your direct reports.
• Write code mostly in C++ and Go, monitor live services, automate processes for deployment, and support the full SDLC process. Support quick onboarding of new SWEs.
• Improve the obtainability of scarce resources for Google Cloud.
• Use Google's AI/ML to improve your velocity and impact and to make Google's products better. Proactively spot and suggest areas of future work for self and team.

Qualifications

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 5 years of experience coding in a general purpose coding language (e.g., Java, C, C++, Python, Shell, Go or JavaScript, etc.) or in system design.
• Experience programming in C++ and Python.

Preferred qualifications:

• Knowledge of Google automation and testing infrastructure such as guitar, sandman, centigrate, hexa.
• Knowledge of one or more of these - APIs, control planes, frameworks.
