Google is an American technology company founded in 1998 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin and now the principal subsidiary of Alphabet, headquartered in Mountain View, California. It operates the world's dominant search engine and the advertising system built around it, along with YouTube, Android, Chrome, Gmail, Maps, Workspace and Google Cloud, reaching billions of users across nearly every internet-connected market. The company designs its own silicon in the Tensor Processing Unit line, develops the Gemini foundation models through Google DeepMind, and derives most of its revenue from advertising while cloud has become its fastest growing segment.

About the job

At Google, we "Focus on the user and all else will follow." Our Interaction Designers transform complex tasks into intuitive, easy-to-use experiences for billions of people. From creating user flows and wireframes to building mockups and prototypes, you will envision and bring product experiences to life with an inspired, refined, and magical feel. You will join our multi-disciplinary UX team, collaborating with Engineering and Product Management, leveraging user insights to create industry-leading products.

As an Interaction Designer, you'll apply user-centered design methods to craft industry-leading user experiences from concept to execution, working with design partners to evolve the Google design language to build beautiful, innovative products.

As a UX Designer for Developer Experience on the Geo Makers team, you will design and deliver developer-facing tools, reusable UI components, and interactive workflows across Google Maps platform and our geospatial toolset. You are a hybrid design engineer who treats code as a primary design medium, combining strong visual and interaction craft with front-end fluency. Thinking like a developer while upholding high visual standards, you will build tangible experiences in the browser and explore novel ways to showcase geospatial and AI capabilities. You will partner with product management, engineering, UX research, and developer relations to translate complex spatial Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), Software Development Kits (SDKs), and agentic capabilities into intuitive developer experiences.

The Geo team is focused on building the most accurate, comprehensive, and useful maps for our users, through products like Maps, Earth, Street View, Google Maps Platform, and more. Every month, more than a billion people rely on Maps services to explore the world and navigate their daily lives.

The Geo team also enables developers to use the power of Google Maps platforms to enhance their apps and websites. As they plot a course for the future of mapping, they are solving complex computer science problems, designing beautiful and intuitive product experiences, and improving our understanding of the real world.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

  • Design interactive API references, live code playgrounds, sandboxes, and AI-assisted developer workflows that let developers test endpoints and visualize spatial data in real time.
  • Combine front-end code (HTML/CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, React) with AI prototyping tools to build interactive experiences and explore novel ways to represent geospatial capabilities.
  • Contribute to and maintain reusable design system patterns and code-aligned components for developer surfaces, including SDK UI kits, schema visualizers, interactive code blocks, and map canvas controls.
  • Partner closely with engineering, product management, developer relations, and UX research to evaluate technical trade-offs, bridge design and implementation, and advocate for API usability and developer ergonomics.

  • Experience designing for developer ecosystems, API or SDK portals, component libraries, or cloud platforms.
  • Experience with mapping APIs and SDKs, 3D and spatial rendering libraries, or geospatial tools.
  • Experience designing for AI-assisted developer workflows, agentic tools, or Large Language Model (LLM) integrations.
  • Experience addressing developer pain points across SDK integration, rate limits, schema definitions, and API error handling.
