Backend Engineering - Routing Efficiency
Get to Know the Team:
Grab is committed to building a leading O2O platform in Southeast Asia, where the efficiency of the platform is a crucial factor in measuring business capabilities. This team provides routing/navigation/ETA capabilities for different business verticals (transport, food delivery, express delivery, etc.). The goal is to provide the most effective and reliable routing/navigation to achieve higher platform efficiency.
Get to Know the Role:
Here you will be deeply involved in the development of cutting-edge routings/navigation systems and research in the geography industry, get closer to the core indicators of the business, and use massive amounts of real data to explore their relevance to reality. Most importantly, you will have the opportunity to drive Grab's business growth through bit by bit insight and finally see the improvement of business indicators.
We are looking for a backend engineer to build our navigation product to help our driver partners to finish their jobs in a most effective way. We will need your excellent engineering skills to improve our business experience (guidance, timing control, interaction with realtime singles, instrumentation & analytics etc.). And also we would like you to give full play to your talents, boldly propose creative ideas, and practice them with team members.
The Day-to-Day Activities:
Design and implement highly reliable and scalable distributed microservice systems.
Continuously optimize and iterate experience issues in key business indicators, such as ETA and routing.
Maintain the stability and cost of the most critical online services in the team.
Collaborate with cross-team stakeholders such as product managers, UI designers and data analysts to ship world-class products to customers' hands.
Participate in code and design reviews to maintain our high development standards.
The Must-Haves:
5+ years of experience in software engineering in a distributed systems environment.
Strong Computer Science fundamentals in algorithms and data structures.
Experience in developing and maintaining large scale micro-services.
Passionate about building products and features to accelerate business growth
You can be a good coder in any programming language, but willing to work on Golang. Proficiency in Golang will be a strong advantage.
The Nice-to-Haves:
Strong large-scale source code reading and business disassembly capabilities
Performance optimization or troubleshooting of complex systems, such as Redis, MQ
Familiarity with cloud systems such as AWS or Azure.
Good English Communication
1. Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, Geographic Information Systems, or a related field.
2. Proficient in at least one programming language, such as Python, Go, or Java.
3. Strong computer fundamentals, including understanding of data structures, algorithms, databases, operating systems, and computer networks.
4. Familiar with SQL and basic database concepts; prior knowledge of MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, or Elasticsearch is preferred.
5. Basic understanding of data parsing, data cleaning, or data pipelines.
6. Experience using AI tools to assist in learning, development, or data processing, such as using tools like Claude Code, ChatGPT, Cursor, and Copilot for coding, troubleshooting, documentation, data analysis, or efficiency improvement, and the ability to reasonably judge and verify AI-generated results.
7. Strong curiosity, learning ability, problem-solving skills, and communication skills; able to collaborate effectively in a team environment.
