Job Summary

We’re looking for a bartender who makes a good drink and makes people feel welcome at our downtown Louisville tasting room. Bring energy, a genuine smile, and a knack for talking with people. Look guests in the eye, listen, and notice the little things that can make their visit better than they expected. Keep your head on a swivel: know who’s waiting, when there’s time for a bourbon conversation, and when it’s time to get drinks out. You’ll make classic and creative drinks, with and without alcohol, and talk bourbon with everyone from first-time drinkers to longtime enthusiasts-without making it complicated or talking down to anyone. Learn Green River and Bardstown Bourbon Company, help your teammates, and bring our “Bourbon without the Bullshit” approach to every shift. If you want to build your experience in Kentucky bourbon and give people a reason to come back, this is a chance to do both.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Green River, one of the fastest-growing bourbon brands in the country, and help shape the guest experience as the brand continues to grow.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Make the guest experience the focus of every interaction. Welcome guests with a genuine smile, natural eye contact, and an upbeat greeting; listen attentively and maintain warm, positive energy throughout their visit, including during busy service.
  • Create memorable experiences through thoughtful, personalized attention. Notice guests’ preferences, interests, and reasons for visiting; anticipate their needs and find opportunities to exceed expectations beyond accurate orders and well-made drinks. Make guests feel recognized and cared for while respecting responsible service standards and company guidelines.
  • Maintain awareness of the entire bar while engaging individual guests-notice arriving guests, acknowledge those waiting, and anticipate others’ needs without losing focus on the guest in front of you.
  • Read the pace of service and use sound judgment to balance guest conversation with timely drink preparation. Know when there is time to connect and when to keep conversations brief, prioritize orders, and get drinks out efficiently without sacrificing quality or hospitality.
  • Learn the Green River brand, its products, and what it stands for, and adapt your service and communication to its “Bourbon without the Bullshit” approach-authentic, approachable, and free of pretension.
  • Tailor bourbon conversations to each guest’s knowledge and interests, making bourbon welcoming and easy to understand for novices while engaging enthusiasts in more detailed product discussions.
  • Bring high energy, enthusiasm, and an engaging service style every shift, creating a fun, welcoming bar experience that reflects the Green River brand.
  • Follow bar opening and closing procedures, including restocking garnishes, straws, and napkins and ensuring clean towels and glassware are available.
  • Ensure the bar is well-stocked with ice, liquor, wine, and beer.
  • Check taps and appliances to confirm that they are working properly.
  • Keeping the bar clean by wiping down surfaces, sweeping, mopping, removing soiled glassware, scrubbing coolers and storage areas, and emptying trash receptacles.
  • Completing Prep Lists as needed which would include prepping garnishes, making batch recipes and other items on the prep lists.
  • Pour samples and guide product conversations in retail locations, tailoring recommendations to guests’ interests.
  • Taste and evaluate cocktails before serving.
  • Set up and work any auxiliary bars.
  • Strictly abide by state liquor regulations, particularly those prohibiting service to minors and driving while under the influence.
  • Maintain the highest health standards, sanitation, and cleanliness in the beverage/bar area to meet local, state, and government guidelines.
  • Take guest orders accurately, prepare drinks efficiently, serve and clear tables as needed, and manage guest tabs from opening to closing with attention to detail to keep service moving smoothly.
  • Process cash and credit card payments accurately and handle safe access in accordance with company procedures.
  • Availability to work private events occurring outside normal operating hours.
  • Develop knowledge of Bardstown Bourbon Company, its brand, and its products to support informed, approachable guest conversations.
  • Must be willing to learn about the Bardstown Bourbon Company whiskey library and vintage spirits’ library.
  • Complete company-provided bourbon, product, and brand training and participate in ongoing education to strengthen cocktail preparation, product knowledge, and confident, approachable guest service.
  • Commitment to the Company’s ISO program, including the quality and food safety of our products.
  • On-site attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Desired Qualifications and Skills

  • An upbeat, engaging service style and the ability to sustain positive energy while balancing attentive hospitality with efficient service.
  • Comfort engaging guests with various levels of bourbon knowledge and adapting conversations to their interests and the pace of service.
  • A collaborative approach: communicating with teammates, noticing when support is needed, and helping maintain smooth service across the bar.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
