Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and safety-conscious Locate Technician to join our team in Grand Ledge, MI. The Locate Technician will be responsible for identifying and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Respond to locate requests and accurately identify underground utilities including gas, water, electric, and telecommunications lines.
• Use specialized equipment such as ground-penetrating radar, electromagnetic locators, and GPS devices to detect and mark utility lines.
• Interpret utility maps, blueprints, and other documentation to assist in locating underground infrastructure.
• Communicate effectively with contractors, utility companies, and customers to provide clear and accurate locate information.
• Maintain detailed records of locate activities and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures to prevent damage to utilities and ensure personal and public safety.
• Perform routine maintenance and calibration of locating equipment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Previous experience in utility locating, construction, or related field preferred.
• Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical tasks such as walking, bending, and lifting.

Work Environment

This position requires working outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and may involve travel within the Grand Ledge area. The role involves physical activity and adherence to strict safety standards.
