BI Engineer - Power BI & Tableau

We are looking for a BI Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Power BI development and data visualization to design, develop, and maintain accurate, reliable, and visually effective business intelligence solutions.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Power BI, SSRS, SQL, DAX, and data modelling, along with a good understanding of Tableau and modern data visualization practices. The role will involve translating analytical and business requirements into effective dashboards, reports, semantic models, and actionable visual insights while following established design, governance, and accessibility standards.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports with a strong focus on accuracy, clarity, usability, and performance.
• Develop and maintain SSRS reports based on business and analytical requirements.
• Translate analytical requirements into efficient semantic models, data models, DAX measures, and SQL logic.
• Develop optimized DAX calculations and SQL queries to support reporting and analytical requirements.
• Implement and manage Row-Level Security (RLS) in Power BI to ensure appropriate and governed data access.
• Configure and support automated data refresh processes and ensure reliable dashboard/report availability.
• Follow established version control and BI development standards across dashboards, reports, and related assets.
• Design visualizations that effectively communicate insights and support business decision-making.
• Ensure dashboard and report layouts follow established design system principles and information design standards.
• Apply accessibility guidelines to dashboards and visualizations to ensure clarity and usability for different users.
• Build reusable components, frameworks, and reporting practices where applicable.
• Collaborate closely with analysts, business owners, data engineers, and other stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective BI solutions.
• Participate in requirement discussions and translate business needs into practical visualization and reporting solutions.
• Troubleshoot data, dashboard, refresh, and reporting issues and ensure timely resolution.
• Maintain high standards of data accuracy, reliability, consistency, and governance across BI deliverables.
• Communicate analytical insights and visualization outcomes clearly to technical and business stakeholders.

Required Technical Skills

Power BI

• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI development.
• Experience building interactive dashboards and reports.
• Strong understanding of Power BI semantic/data modelling.
• Hands-on experience with DAX.
• Experience implementing Row-Level Security (RLS).
• Experience with scheduled/automated data refresh.
• Understanding of Power BI development and governance standards.

SSRS

• Hands-on experience developing and maintaining SSRS Reports.
• Ability to translate reporting requirements into accurate and user-friendly SSRS reports.

SQL

• Strong SQL skills for data extraction, transformation, validation, and reporting.
• Ability to develop efficient SQL queries supporting BI and analytical requirements.

Data Modelling

• Strong understanding of data modelling concepts.
• Ability to design efficient semantic models for reporting and analytics.
• Understanding of relationships, measures, dimensions, and reporting structures.

Tableau

• Hands-on experience with Tableau development and data visualization.
• Ability to create clear and effective Tableau dashboards and visualizations.
• Understanding of visualization best practices and dashboard design.

Data Visualization & Design

• Strong understanding of information design and dashboard layout principles.
• Ability to present complex data in a simple, clear, and actionable manner.
• Understanding of data storytelling fundamentals.
• Strong attention to visual consistency, clarity, and accuracy.
• Ability to follow established design systems and accessibility guidelines.
• Focus on creating dashboards that are intuitive and easy for business users to consume.

Governance & Development Practices

• Experience applying Row-Level Security (RLS).
• Experience with refresh automation.
• Understanding of version control practices for BI development.
• Ability to follow established chapter/team standards and reusable frameworks.
• Strong focus on data accuracy, reliability, and governed reporting.
